I'm going camping at john Neal memorial park on the weekend of July 4 and I know its located near a river I think its called the north santiam river I've heard there is steelhead there anyone fished here before preferable close to the park?

I have no idea about that stretch of the North Santiam, but it is close to both Silver Falls State Park and Detroit lake in the event you need another change of scenery.

ive hit that section only a couple times and there is some nice water. i remember a few sections that were really good bobber and jig water...

If camped at the park, your are right on the water. No need to drive anywhere else unless you want to pick up another run. You can only access the river at the park for a quater mile or so.
At the west end of the park it turns into private land. There is a steep drop off the bank that if you hop down, will give you another 40 yards or so. It's been awhile since I've fished there but that used to be the case. At the top end/east of the park you can wade up river some if your a good wader. You'll be able to pick up another quater mile if you are. There is a rapid at the top end of the park, just below...is a nice holding spot for steelies |
