wanted pontoon boat pontoons.

i am looking to build a frame but i need the pontoons cheap anyone know where i can get some for cheap.

I blew one so on my birthday my parents bought a replacement set from Fishcat for $150.

I recently acquired a one man pontoon and was wondering how one would blow one...? I am totally inexperienced in this area so it may sound stupid, I plan on learning to operate it on a lake and then in some gentle river water and maybe some tougher stuff. It is rated for class three water but I will be in much softer water. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hehe well... It was user error for the most part.

I haul my pontoon in the bed of my pickup truck and don't deflate them. They rub on both sides and before this took place it was against a fairly thin edge of metal. Eventually it popped a stitch and I was an idiot and ignored it thinking one stitch wouldn't make a difference. Eventually it popped a few more, I didn't use my head and one day while trying to put a little extra air in BOOM!!!!!! And I mean boom. Scared the runs right out of me it was like a shotgun going off. Split the darn thing all the way to the back and 3/4 the way to the front.

I remember just standing there staring in disbelief haha. Once I gained my composure I went to the store, got some parachute cord, wrapped it up and went fishing

Actually did a pretty nice job too I should have taken a picture. hehe it looked like a one of those motorbike webs you get for keeping gear on the fender but wrapped around my pontoon.

I fished for weeks on it until I got my new set, and covered up the metal edges with plastic. So yeah that's how you fix a blown pontoon lol

And as far as maintaining the pontoon, just keep temperature changes in mind. Like when you take it out of your garage and into the sun it's going to harden up a lot. And when you hit the water it will soften. Don't be conservative with the pressure, pump it up until it's pretty firm but do it in the hottest area it will see. And don't freak when it starts to stretch because it probably will. Usually when it's out of the water I let a little air out and top it off right before I put in, but it depends. This is all From the perspective of a Fishcat owner with PVC outer material and an internal bladder.

Where do you store your anchor during a float on moving water...? Every one tells me not to leave it hanging there off the rear of my toon..
I bought an electric pump to fill it up and a hand pump to top off the tubes, how long does it take to fill the tubes? Just curious....

It kinda depends on your pump. Maybe 3 mins a pontoon.

As far as anchors go, I never really had a problem hanging it off the back.. I can see people not wanting it banging around, and maybe the knot becoming lose. I guess you might accidentally drop it in fast water and you would be in trouble... I guess you could snag it, I really don't know. The only time I use an anchor is in lakes and it's a 4# that I just set on the pontoon up against the frame since I have taken off the motor mount and replaced it with something else.

Usually in rivers I'm pulling plugs back and forth and if I want to bounce some eggs along I'll pull over and stand on the bank. It's preference I guess.

Thanks, inexperience can be a huge stumbling block. I should have mine ready by the weekend.....for the maiden voyage that is.

The hand pump took me less than 3 min last night... very surprised. I'd say at a constant rate, under or at 2 min. Mine is a double action hand pump.

I got a rechargable electric pump. It fills my 9' pontoons in about 45 second to a min. I do have a double action pump and top it off like Troutski said. The pumps kill my lower back if I use them alone.
