Default What do you target up there?

Do you have sand bass, cuddas, yellowtail, bonita, etc..... Or is it mostly Salmon, rock fishies, and Hali? Im already chomping atthe bit to get up there and test it out!!!!

unfortunately I've never managed a cuda, or any bonita up here.. but there's lots of yellowtail, Tons of black sea bass, ling cod, cabezon, red irish lord, china rocks, canary's, flounder, halibut, and the occasional salmon while bottom fishing.. if your close in shore there are some nice size surf perch too.. We have a quite diverse selection of game and food fish up here, you'll have alot of fun.

Normally you have to go a Bit further offshore for the halibut, unless you find a nice sandy spot a few miles out..

Triples on a single hook arent uncommon either (you may already know), Example- a cabezon eats a bass, and the two of them get eaten by a larger lingcod - sometimes the lingcod cant let go until all the way up top, and you can net the whole triplet.
I love the Oregon coast!

Thumbs up Triple Slam

I have heard of a triple but it required three licensed anglers to do it....What a trip to have that experience ...

Hey girlzluvfishin,
By the sounds of it, you're coming from So. Cal? Yellowtail are a kick. Sounds like you're all ocean going, but a fish that is a real scrapper (as I just recently found out) are the shad when they run upriver to spawn. Not a fish you're going to want to eat (good bait) but are a blast on light tackle. Also, don't forget albacore, if you have the range. Are you moving, or visiting? What area? Own boat?

Good luck!
Richard

I like to target Ling cod and Kelp greenling off the jetties. Newport's south Jetty is my favorite and a beer from Rogue brewery is right there after the fishin!

I fished for some shad from the bank the other day and had a blast. I was using 8# line and a 6' med/Hvy action lightining Rod with a green jig head and they used every part of that rod. So much fun. We fished by bonneville at the hatchery.

Oh yeah, one more thing to add to that list is pinkfin. They're some sort of perch. They come into the tidewaters here on the Umpqua in June. We were blown off the big water Friday so went pinkfinning instead, two of us limited out in about an hour (that's 30 fish). Great fun, and many doubles. We were anchored in about 15 feet of water, used 2 oz. lead with a couple of hooks and used pieces of sand shrimp. When the tide starts coming in, hold on!!

Have fun,
Richard
