Default Halibut time

Looks like this Friday will be a good day to make a halibut run. I'll be heading out from Winchester. Hope to see plenty of other boats making the run as well. This will be my first trip, and am using some coordinates from an article I found, and have posted in another thread here. If someone has any suggestions or alternate 'hot spots', I'm all ears!!

Good luck and have a safe trip. I doubt if I will ever get over my total fear of the big blue. Something about it, just can't do it. Again - tight lines and have a safe trip.

Your own boat? How far of a run you make from there? I will be on Tillamook bay all weekend.

I have a really good BBQ and REALLY COLD BEER if you catch "extra" LOL

Default Drew a blank

We drew a skunk on Friday. The run is 28 miles NW. We had good seas for the run out and about an hour of fishing until the wind kicked in gear. That made the drift too fast (for us) at that depth (about 500 ft), and started hanging up more often than not. We hauled up and out of there at 11:00, leaving the fleet behind. Right after we left, a boat took on water and sank. Luckily there were plenty of boats to help out. The ride in was a lumpy one with a South wind and three to five foot wind waves, a few of which we took over the bow. The Striper handles those really well! We were going to make the run again on Saturday, but it looked like a front was going to blow in so we kept her tied up, as did the charters. When we got to the docks on Thursday, it looked like it was a pretty good day, as there was a lot of filleting going on, and one fish over 80 lbs. On Friday, I only saw two or three fish. The Strike Zone brought one in, and Sully had at least one. We'll get after it again when we can.....

Hang in there Richard, it will happen. The taste of fresh Halibut will be worth the wait.

Sounds like a fish-for-all. I really mean it, there is nothing like fresh Halibut on a grill. Well maybe an ice-cold beer along with it.

Yeah, those flatties are tasty. Chuck, have you fished for pink fin? I hear they are mighty good eating as well, and fun to catch in the tidewater. What do you know about them critters?

We use 3 lbs. of lead out there, and let me tell you, I'm sore just from reeling that up with almost 600 feet of line out!! Start excercising Davy, I know I need to!

Can't say that I have - maybe by another name...!? I recently changed my front anchor from 17# to 30# and I hear you pain, or should I say I feel your pain...

almost quit smokin, am well exercised, and I sure as heck can run the BBQ when we get em back to the beach. I know the drill, I used to work charters in the gulf. Mostly only about 300 feet fishin up there though. Bigger fish though. But 300 feet with a 200lber was tough. I have these big ol Tuna sticks, about 7' I think they are , all the best, go get em. Gonna give the Willamette another chance to make me happy tomorrow
