Default Is this true

I found this post on another board I belong too. Does anyone here know if this is true?

100,000 Chetco Slamon smolt going to LANDFILL

Today at 8:59am Todd Confer of ODF&W Gold Beach office is having 100,000 salmon smolt killed this Friday . In years past hatchery plants were 400,000 + now it's 150,000 with 50,000 of this slated for an experiment, not knowing if they will make it. Maybe if we put the 100,000 extra fish in the Chetco, some may make it back in a couple of years. Sure is nice knowing that with most if not all the salmon closed here in Brookings we have to kill smolt. Contact Ed Bowles Fish Division Administrator. 503 947 6207 Ed.Bowles@state.or.us [Boss of Todd Confer] more info salmontroutandsteelhead.com

I believe the existing rules for releasing hatchery fish is they must be clipped. If the fish weren't clipped then they can not be released into the wild. I know it sucks but the rules are there for a reason, check with your local ODFW office and see if this is the case.

if they are not fin clipped than what was the purpose of feeding them and raising them. Somebody is not doing their job apparantly. Sad situation there. If the salmon do not recover it will mean more bans on rivers and limits for fisherman will go down.

I would venture to guess that the non-clipped salmon are a part of the control group within whatever experiment/tests they are doing. If they were to start releasing non-clipped hatchery salmon, they would then have a difficult time counting wild salmon runs. I love fishing as much as the next person, but if we can't control our consumption of fish, I am all for a ban to protect a wild species. I just hope that we never reach the point of needing a full blown ban.
