Default Tillamook Bay Bank Fishing?

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever fished from the bank, jetty, or pear for salmon in Tillamook Bay? What did you use? Where exactly did you go? Did you get anything?
Thanks,
Nate

Ok so I was thinking about how to do this, and as some of you know I just got a new sturgeon bank rod and was thinking I could use it for this. I want to use the sturgeon rod because of its ability to make very long casts. However, to make long casts requires a lot of weight. I new that casting 10oz of led out into 15 or 20 ft water is a recipe for snags or a sore reeling arm. So, my solution to this is to use a weight thats still 10oz, but that weighs only slightly more than the volume of water it is displacing. Thus, I decided to make my weight out of a small bottle filled with water. Using this as my weight I will be able to adjust the sink rate of my lure and by adding air or a few chunks of led. Potentially I'll be able to find the depth that the fish are, and consistently fish at that depth.
To make my weight I used an 8oz bottle, a langth of spinner wire, a swivel, and hot glue.

I plan on running about a 3-4 ft leader behind the weight with a spinner or herring (if I can rig the herring up in such a way that it will hold together during the cast.) As you can see in one of the pictures when it's full and under water it's almost invisible.

So what do you guys think? Do I have a shot or what?

Thumbs up Invention....

Thats how the guy with the Bic lighter happened to become a millionaire. Sounds like once you get it dialed in the thing will take care of itself. Thinking outside the box Let us know how it works and how much they will cost

Thanks, I'm going to try and get out there this weekend but if its going to be super nasty weather it will have to wait until next week. As for selling them, I'll think about it after I get a few fish.

Default jetty salmon

that's an interesting rig - I used to fish the north jetty at Barview ( just north of Tillamook ) for lingcod in the spring , I did pretty good using a lead head jig and a large white bass worm - I wondered about salmon and tried some experiments - the biggest problem was that my rig would swing in parallel to the rocks no matter how much weight I used - so , I decided to treat it as if it was a river and went to a sliding bobber and sand shrimp -
I only hooked 1 doing this - when the salmon are in so are the boats - and it is hard to keep anything out there without getting picked up by a boat - the best jetty salmon fishing I ever saw was at the end of the south jetty of the Umpqua ( sp ) River - they were using buzz bombs jigged off the bottom - as with any jetty watch the breakers or you can find yourself in a bad situation -

Default trolling rigs

now that trolling for springers is not that far off I have a quesion -- I have never done very well trolling herring , they are a real pain to find ( in decent condition ) and rigging them is a pain - maybe it is my lack of spending enough time with them , I land a lot more salmon from the bank than in my boat - anyways I was talking to some boat guys last year and they told me that they quit herring and were using prawn spinners - looks just like a herring rig but with a spinner on top ( that can be changed ) and were doing just as well - anyone ever try them ?

I checked out the rig for a prawn spinner and I think it would work for what I want to do with my water weight. I might also try a quick fish with that setup. It seems like the cut plug herring is going to be to fragile to be casting it great distances. When do people start fishing for springers in Tillamook Bay? Also, what are the best tidal conditions to fish in for springers?
