just wanted to give an update to my trip on the 10th....once I got to the can around 6:00....the bar looked doable so I kept on trucking over....I stopped just south of the bar in about 240ft. It took me about 10 minutes to hook up and I had one 24" keeper in the boat....the rest of the day was lights out....I ended up hooking 14 waiting on that next keeper size...finally around 10 I netted a 27" keeper.....tagged it, buttoned up the gear for the bar run...and was sitting at the docks around 11:00. One of the best salmon days I have had and the ocean was small to boot!.
So, Sunday rolls around and a guy I know that has an Arima wanted to cross over the bar and fish. So, I agreed to go and show him the line out....It was a tougher day fishing...we hooked 20 or so, but it took forever to even get 3 keepers in the boat. The ocean was the flatest I have ever seen it...1 footers with no wind and the bar was a mill pond. I would still like to meet some of you OFF folks....did anybody end up going?? Paul |

we didnt head out the 10th, but I'll be up there in my sled from tomorrow evening until monday.
I think the salmon derby that we're in is called "hawgs and dogs" or something like that. I dunno, a fishing buddy signed us up.. should be a fun time though. sounds like you had a good trip, sorry to hear about all the undersize you guys got into. atleast you guys pulled in several keepers. a 27" should be 8-10# so you got a little meat between them ![]() were your using hardware or herring? We normally stick to (deep six, or sinking) divers, then optional flasher - to a #5 or larger spinner. Hoochies rock if you head a ways past the bar too.. rigged similarly to the spinners W/ a flasher. did most of the undersize's have adipose fins or were they amputee's? |

at first I was using salt cured anchovies....but they were getting beaten to death (they were soft, I think bait is going to be an issue this year, they didn't even have fresh herring at this point), then I switched to a #5 coyote spoon (blue/silver)...and caught the rest of my fish on this....this thing got tatooed....I was running a deep-six diver, with a fish flash, then 3-4 ft. leader to the spoon....about 25 pulls...but by Sunday I was running 40-50 pulls...trying to get deeper on the chinook....on Sunday we hit a 20 lb. nook on this rig...right at 45 pulls. Anyway, as far as the fish....it was more native fish than clipped....and I would say half and half silver to nooks.....the river should be loaded with chinook this year!!!!....good luck in that tourney let us know how you do!
