I see alot of references to jigs, kwikfish etc; Is it the waters up here dont warrant using corkies and eggs, or is it because you all have boats and us land locked drifters are just s.o.l?

Being new to fishing this area, I am finding it hard to find any decent solid info on how and where exactly to fish for the steelhead and falls coming up. This is about the only reason I miss Roseburg...I knew every rock in the N. Umpqua.

Bowtie, those of us that are talking about using Kwikfish and spinners are mostly trolling in tidewater for fish that have just come into the streams we fish. I myself ussually fish tidewater until the end of November or early December. It really depends on the weather. If we get a bunch of rain the fish will be able to get up river and then I'll use corkies and drift fish up stream from tidewater. I also use steelies and sometimes eggs in the upper parts of the rivers.

Default patterns for fall fish

Last year I used copper blade and body #4 on sunny days and gold blade orange body #5 on cloudy days - yahoo! they loved them ! about 3 more wks.
and the fun starts - remember it is not a casting contest, we were hooking them as close as 15' away - lots of coho were in the mix also - use a 4' leader
min. with a 1.5 or 2 oz. kidney lead with chain - the bottom comes up fast
so reel SLOWLY at first then faster and faster as you come in with your rod tip up - the strike is very hard and sudden - last year I had one bend the wire
shaft on a #5 in half -
