Default Where are the Spring Chinook at?

I have fished the Willamette (St. Johns) a few times in the last month. trolling hearing, and tried shrimp with spinning glow as well. Not a bite, and saw none caught. Fish count man said that 3 reported all day on one day. I'm itching to get a fish on!!!! Thinking about going down to Scappoose tomorrow. I have heard maybe better luck at Coon Island??? Anyone have a suggestion for me to try?

Skunked

Salmon have been sketchy all season....there are fish around...just not biting in heavy numbers...I have been fishing coon island all year....I manged a 35" chinook in late April...but, that has been it....all the fish I have seen caught were on plug cut....If you go down there, everyone will be trolling downhill...but don't shy away from trolling uphill as well....I shoot for about .8 mph going up....and try and get the boat to do 2.3 or so going downhill...good luck!!!!

Thanks Dixie,
It's nice to know that I am the right track at least. I have been trolling cut plug. I did go out to scapposse the other day and trolled around the mouth of the lewis, and then in the mult channel for a bit. saw none caught. Asked the fish counter and he said no salmon reported and only one sturgeon all day...this was at 3:00pm.

P.S. how do you know how fast your boat is going to the tenth???
