Default Hot bite at Suttle

Went to Suttle with a couple friends on Fri May 2nd. With some hot tips from another couple of friends we were able to get into probably my best early season day of kokanee fishing in a long time. We finished with 3 limits by 12:30 and all fish were caught on Gibb's minnows casted and jigged back.
Over 70 kokanee for the day!

I take it they're good eating? Do they taste like salmon or trout? Just curious, never fished for them.

I hear they're similar to salmon. I've only eaten their larger relatives.

sockeye is my favorite salmon species flavor wise. I know kokanee would have a different diet in the lakes so they would taste different but I'm willing to bet it's pretty good.

Kokanee are a different life cycle of Sockeye salmon, they are the same species. Kokanee merely live and die in lakes, while Sockeye go out to the ocean to live then come back to rivers and lakes to spawn. I can't say I've caught that many of them, but they're delicious. Some say they're the best tasting salmon.

Funny how we love fish...mine is Brook Trout. Pity the Brookie that is foolish enough to take my lure, he is dinner. I can't help myself, to me it is like candy; not so much sweet but it taste so good you expect your Mother to say "No more Brook Trout, your gonna spoil your dinner". It just struck me as funny how I can't stand the taste of Salmon, maybe some smoked salmon even then very little. I guess it's good we don't all love the same fish, and good for the fish
Man now I am hungry...gotta go.
