I propose that we start a skunk thread in order to keep the rest of the threads untainted. Here is where you would post reports of bad days, of which, God willing, there will be few.
Let me start with my bad day at Walling Pond. The air temp was 50 degrees, the water temp was 40 degrees. I cast spoons, Kastmasters and spinners with no luck. I then switched to Powerbait, and fished from 2 feet to six feet, again with no luck. After four hours I gave it up. I did see a brooder of about 24" cruising in the shallows, but it was obviously about to die, and was more black than anything else. I managed to bonk it on the head with my hook as I tried to get it to bite, but was unsuccesful in getting a response. Like any other skunk day, it was still good to be out, dreaming of the pull on the line.

I went to Leaburg this morning and met Ron Stockton at the boat ramp and we proceeded to the back of the lake, trolled on the way back to try to catch at least a stocker Trout. Nothing doing, those fish just didn't want to cooperate with us. We fish the head of the lake for a few hours and still nothing, so we pulled anchor and dead drifted all the way back to the main pool of the lake - still not as much as a tap. The water temp. was 39 degress which had a lot to do with it, out side air temp. was very cold.....heater cold. Man that thing sure does come in handy, we thru every thing in the book at them to no avail. Pulled the boat out of the water at 12:30 and called it a day. To quote a good friend "the fishing was great, but the catching was lousy". Another day, I am sure of one thing, we stood a better chance of catching a fish on the water than on the couch..
. I like the idea of the new "Skunk" forum, just hope I have to post here that often. Chuck

Well as Chuck already told you our day was a wash. But the fishing was great! We had a good time getting to know each other and we couldn't of asked for a more beautiful day. But it was a little on the chilly side. Here's some pictures I took on our excursion.

I hate having to post here, I went Steelheading this morning and didn't even get a bump from a Trout let along a Steelhead. We fished all my favorite haunts and holes to no avail. Sure was nice though not having to scrape ice off the car before leaving the house. Another day with out getting hurt.....so it wasn't a total bust.

Dichrofisher & I were wishing at the Junction city pond this afternoon. The day was just great - 60 and sunny. Water 43. The first thing that we saw was a guy who just landed a nice fish. That was a good sigh. But as you can see I'm posting here. We saw jumping fish, saw a fly fishing guy landing a humangest fish on the opposite side. The sunset was beautiful. Everything was great except this smell... skunk![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I too felt the rath of the skunk. My first trip this year was on saturday to walling pond. I had missed all the posts on how slow it was, and boy was it!!! We arrived at around 8;45 on Saturday morning. Air temp was from 39-47 throughout the day and the Water temp was about 44. I had one hard bite on power bait from the bottom but didnt take it. And nothing after that. The whole lake was dead. No fish seen caught, but did get some nice pics of blue herrons. I will post them later. And I saw the same dying Brooder that 18406 saw. I hate the smell of skunk!
