I was using a two hook setup, on the bottom hook I was using a small piece of gulp, and on the top hook I was fishing some powerbait carp dough. The dough floats real well so I use it on a 2ft leader on that and had the gulp on the bottom. I'm not a real big fan of that particular dough bait as while fishing in clear water I've seen the carp come up to it, "sniff" it with their whiskers, and immediately turn away.

I really need to find a good homemade recipe to try out, or perhaps just some corn.

Try corn mashed with dough. Here is a decent link I found.

my last 5 or so fishing trips skunked!

twice north of garibaldi, jigging for rockfish off the jetty, not even a nibble.

sandy river 2 or 3 weeks ago(can't remember exactly)....not even a nibble....tried bobber and sand shrimp....water was too high and fast, then tried plunking/bottom fishing with sand shrimp....to no avail

carver park last weekend, jig and bobber...nothing, but my step dad and brother caught some chinook smolt on rooster tails.

today on the willy at willamette park, nearly all day...probably a bad spot to try for sturgeon, but nothing with 4-5oz off the dock using smelt....I even tried my smaller setup and casted smelt tails(small amount) into non-moving water to try for some catfish and still nothing....not even a buzzbait got me anything.

am I cursed or something? or lack of technique/timing?

You should give it a(the north side of the river) try with large spinners ( number 3 or 4's) or sinking flies...very nice fishing in those breaks behind the boulders and cement barriers. Easy access via bike trial. Tight lines.

went to do some bank fishing on willamette today...perfect day, out there first with choice of the bank spots. get rigged up and cast out when i start getting bites (decent but not fully committed). well anyways, my buddy didnt even get any bites and after an hour a guy shows up and low and behold he hooks a shaker the first 10 minutes down there. well then another guy showes up and casts out and nailes a keeper (52"!) after 10 minutes and leaves. now we're getting exited!!! then wham.... my buddy nailes a shaker that almost took his pole away and as soon as he lets him go, my pole gets nailed... and boy do i mean nailed. i have an 11' surf pole that doubled over when i hooked this fish. then before i knew it he swam right into the rocks and snagged me up. i tried to let him run it back out but it was useless he was gone and i was sngged. just to add insult to injury... the guy on the other side of us banked a 49" when we were leaving. :-(

A friend and I went to the Mckenzie today. It was a beautiful day, but no fish. We went after Steelhead and we didn't even see any caught. Oh well it was still fun.
