Default ODFW Fouled By Environmental Extremists

It is time to take our fishing back !
You can contact those in charge here.
Agency Information: Directory: Fish Division - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
Time to raise some hell and regain our fishing rights.

----Our recent letter-----

ODFW FOULED BY ENVIRONMENTAL EXTREMISTS

You have efectively ruined fishing in Oregon for most fishermen.
You have harmed legitimate businesses.
The restrictions on streams for catching trout is so far out of line, no one wants to waste the time going.
What the hell is your goal, to end fishing totally.

To spend nearly $5 a gal for gas to drive somewhere and catch a fish and release it is not even in the reasonable catagory.
I have lived here for 60 years and never have we seen such a STUPID bunch in charge of our fish and wildlife laws.
Time for some serious Legaslative changes in who runs the ODFW.

Environmental extremists and Peta types are not needed there !!!!!!!!!!!!

Open our streams and rivers back up to sensible catch limits. 5 to 10 trout and allow bait again.
Not everyone wnats to be a "whip master" and beat up the rivers with a flyrod.

Get real people, you have become elitists, and fishermen in this state are getting mad as hell !!
You have all but destroyed a lifetime recreation for most of us !!

Mad as hell in Oregon !!!

Welcome to the forum! This forum contains helpful information about fishing. It is a friendly forum, so don't harm anyone's feelings, be safe and happy fishing. Lol. That sounds animated. Weird first post kinda...

Welcome to OFF:

Now back to your first post:

Who is "Our" in Our recent Letter??

Is this an organization or a family?

In my experience with ODFW bio's name calling really gets you no where. They tend to clam up and offer nothing. They go into what I call their "survival" mode.
Diplomacy seems to work better.

cheers

Post Welcome to OFF

To start off I would like to welcome you, your our 500th member...not a stellar post for your first try. This is a fishing forum for people who are all anglers and after the same thing - catching fish. Seems that your post belongs on a political forum, at the same time you are entitled to voice your opinion...but it might be better served on the right ears. I took the liberty and forwarded your post to the ODFW Springfield office along with your IP address. Hopefully they can contact you and get a dialog going, heck who knows maybe they will listen to you, change is always hardest at first. Again welcome to OFF I look forward to other post with a more fishy slant - we love pictures

Welcome!

Now the next order of business is I'm curious what rivers and streams you're talking about. A quick scan of the regulations show me that the north coast and Willamette zones are the only ones with sweeping closures, and at that the Willamette zone seems to have a number of rivers and streams open for retention.

I generally agree with you, with the caveat that a body of water has to be able to sustain a harvest. But on the flip side of the coin there are a lot of bodies of water that wouldn't be able to support harvest, and on those bodies of water I'd much rather get to C&R forever, than see it harvested to extinction then closed.

So far I haven't found many bodies of water in which I have to disagree with ODFW in their assessments (that will change if they open the north coast rivers to retention next year) but I'm sure there are some out there. If you know of some, please let us know, I'm always a big fan of fishing new water.

Welcome the site. But I think I will listen to the Biologists who attended Universities and do extensive reasearch on populations, taking into account pollution, harvests, and climate change. I understand the you have fished here for Sixty years...will your children and grandchildren be able to say the same thing?

Though to be fair you have to wonder what on earth they're thinking sometimes too. I'm thinking in particular about the off shore rockfish and also opening certain rivers for retention (with out any data) just because they want to have "mixed use".

Most Biologists are so full of themselves they couldn't count fish if their lives depended on it.
I was a Bio-Major.
I listened to the plans the environmental nut cases made back in the late 60's and early 70's. I got so mad at their agenda of taking over our forestry and fish and game departments I walked out on their meeting.
Thay have gained control of both those gov agencies and have destroyed the forrestry dept and the entire industry and soon will destroy sport fishing. If you are so naeive to believe the Biologiosts have the answers, I have an oil well to sell you.
Get real. They have restricted people to lakes and stocked fish only for the most part and soon they will pull the plug on that.

Oh and if you want the salmon runs to thrive, kill off about 75% of the seals and sea lions that decimate the runs. You can walk accross the columbia on seal heads at Astoria. You have to get challenged just to get to your boat at many docks.
We use to stand on the Bridge in Pacific City and shoot the damned things when they chased salmon up the rivers. There never was a shortage of seals and sea lions, but there sure is an OVERPOPULATION of them now !!!
Biologists should stay in their labs and play with plants.

Just for the record, many of us do not just fish for "fun" Many of us depend on fish as a major food source, which is being taken from us also.

I came here because this is one of many forums that engage the topic of fishing, and because I have watched the ODFW turn from a good agency in the 50's and most of the 60's go sour beginning in the 70's.

People are losing their rights to fish more and more by the year to this agency and if something is not done soon, there will be no fishing for anyone.
We had a set of logical regulations back then which has turned into an encyclopedia that takes a Philadelphia Lawyer to decipher and they then change the rules on a daily basis at whim and little logic.

The input process from the public is presented in such a fractured and spread out manner that no one other than "STAFF" a term you will read over and over and over if you go to their site to look. It is designed to NOT take input in an effective manner from anyone except "STAFF".The people that own these streams mean nothing to them. They have developed job security by their methods and they are not about to allow any of the public to superceede their "authority.
Here it is. Enjoy http://www.dfw.state.or.us/resources...ess_Packet.pdf

That is about all I had for this forum.
Your future in fishing is up to you.
As for an IP, they already have my IP and my address and know my feelings.
I hope more here will give them a load as well.
My only goal here is to wake some that still have the intelligence to fight back on this issue.

The way it is headed now, you might as well encase your rod and reel in solid plastic so your grandkids can ask you what that thing was used for !!

Been nice... Wake up folks...............
