Default Hagg Lake Maybe?

It's been a long time since I've gone out trying to catch some Crawdad's. I'm looking for a place close by and thought of Hagg Lake. I've looking for a place to catch a lot of them so that I can make them into a feast like in the past, but need to be close to Portland. I used to go up to Lake Billy Chinook, Yachats, and Timothy lake but those are two day / multiple day trips at least. I'm looking for something close and an all day trip. I'd Appreciate any suggestions for a safe place to get them from.

Thank You
Robert

Default Welcome to OFF...

Welcome to OFF Robert... I can't help on the Crawdads in your area but I am sure someone here can hook you up. Post some pictures of your catch...we would love to see them.

Thank you. I did go out to Hagg Lake for the day, but did not catch anything. Not even a nibble from a fish.

Default Dads by the bucket full..

Not sure where your located but Cougar Res. (on the McKenzie river) has a great population of dads...and nice camp spots. Not to mention the fishing is great. If I can be of any help just let me know, I can provide a detailed map.

Welcome aboard,RobertH. My kids and I used to find them by the bucket at Benson Lake. I haven't been there in years, but I am fairly sure it is out in the Troutdale area just off I-84. I would also think they would be our around Sauvie Island somewhere. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Went to the tualatin where it meets with the willamette, and there were none there either. Some friends were there last year and caught tons from what they said, but nothing. I'm thinking it may just still be too cold for them to be out yet, but not 100% sure on that

Maybe some of the lakes on Sauvie Island, but please avoid the river.

Yea... They come out when the water hits 56 degrees.
You can buy a crawfish/crawdad trap at bi-mart for 8 bucks or something. Just buy one, then put some bait in it, then tie some rope and huck it out, where it's not in the current.

Please if you value your health dont eat crawfish out of the tualatin. And that warm water stuff may apply to some species of crawfish but i pull big crawfish out of a cold stream by the limit full just get a burlap sack and some goggle and walk up grabbing all the crawfish you see. You can only harvest 200 a day. Just go find a nice stream with some in it.
