Default Well, got my second infraction on Ifish last night

Man those people are something else. My dad gets arrested the other day for BS reasons so I post this because I was pretty pissed about it:

Get this.
My mother has cancer and has had cancer for close to ten years. As of now her entire chest area from her shoulders to the bottom of her rib cage is one large open sore. Naturally she in is a lot pain. Now she has to bandage it up everyday, but she also has to have a special type of treated gauze between the wound and the bandaging or else the bandages stick. It is very painful when that happens so she HAS to have this special gauze. Well the hospital ran out and she didn't learn of this until my father went to get more once she needed more. The only other place that has it is Rices pharmacy and at 5:45 he calls and is told they close at 6:00, no they can't stay open.
So, he is clocked speeding right before the pharmacy and when the cop walked up my dad tells him that he HAS to be at the pharmacy before 6:00, it is a medical emergency. So the cop tells him to go and pull over at the street right BEFORE the pharmacy (why, I do not know) so my father continues into the parking lot and parks. He gets out and is walking up to the pharmacy with the intention of telling them he is there so to wait, gets halfway through the door and the cop runs up, grabs him by his collar and attempts to yard him out with tazer in hand yelling "I'M GOING TO TAZER YOU! I'M GOING TO TAZER YOU!" My dad tells him again that it is a medical emergency and is told to put his hands on the car. The female cop is standing there with tazer in hand yelling ""I'M GOING TO TAZER HIM! I'M GOING TO TAZER HIM!" while my father is standing there with his hands on the car.
The people in the pharmacy come out to see what the hell is going on since they know my father (he is there all the time) and go inside to get him what he needs.
They proceed to charge him with speeding (46 in a 35), resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. All told about $6000 in fines and possible jail time.

Don't cops any discretion anymore?

------

Obviously, the vast majority of the people on there sided with me and said my dad should get a good lawyer (which he is going to do), but there were actually people that sided with the cops if you can believe that. One guy was saying that it's too hard for the cops to determine whether or not a person is a threat and how he was dressed or what car he drives makes no difference. "They are out there trying to protect us, and that includes the people in the pharmacy as well." Like my dad was going on some sort of rampage, regardless of the fact that he told the cop why he was speeding and exactly what he was getting at the pharmacy. He dresses nice (wears a suit 6 days a week) and drives a new Prius.
Another guy said to flip it around. That "if criminals were getting away by screaming "medical emergency" we would all be in an uproar."
I mean, you have got to be kidding me. So, yeah I got a little hot under the collar. Told one of the moderators his opinion was one of the stupidest things I have ever heard (which was the truth) get up this morning and I now have to send every post I want to make to the moderators so they can make sure it is all nice and friendly. All because I was "attacking the police and other Ifish members"

Wow, that is a lot for your family to handle. I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately too many people (including police) forget what the moto is for EVERY police department in the United States...To Serve and Protect. There are just way too many hairbrains with hairtriggers out there to make me feel like being as charitable as some on iFish or any other place. Sorry you and you Dad had to go through all of the hassle. A good attorney should be able to knock it down to less than 10%. You & yours will be in my prayers.

Well, if someone passed me at 46 in a 35mph zone- I would be happy to see the police give chase and write a ticket. Everybody seems to think they're important enough to not have to obey the speed laws- "those are for the other guy". A last minute run to the pharmacy does not seem like an emergency and surely since they knew your Dad was coming and knew "of" him- they would have waited a couple extra minutes. Seems like the anxiety of the moment for him put your Dad understandably in a tight bind and he was more concerned with the neccassary medical items for his wife, than the seemingly small problem of getting a speeding ticket. The cops didn't know any of the story except that they had a speeder, evading and kinda running from them and not following their instructions. What else could they do? A judge will see all of this and most likely give your Dad the benefit of the doubt, a stern warning, and probably just a ticket.

Once you don't follow an officers requests- you are in no mans land and s*** can happen to you.

(And I also made a side handed comment to a moderator once without realizing who I was chastizing- we had a short PM "discussion" about it and all was well)

Hope all is well with your family.

Zen isn't looking for a Devil's advocate here T4T! That is what the thread is about.

Zen you are certainly allowed the right to be angry with the situation and the police. I hope the judge sees it your way, a good lawyer will probally get it reduced significantly. But that still doesn't take the sting out of the bite man.
Your Mom sounds like a brave woman. I hope she recovers well and in as little pain as possible. As for you, keep your head up Zen. Don't let the MAN get you down bro.

I can almost understand the cops freaking out when they've got someone not listening but they seemed to understand it was a medical emergency, and had him lead them to the pharmacy. It was obvious they were using some discretion with that, but why oh why would they suddenly change their minds!

Whether it was for insulin, heart med, psych med, or bandages to prevent an infection those can all be seriously life threatening if you have to go the night with out them, or at the very least end up with the individual in the hospital by morning.

What happens to the next guy who's rushing to the pharmacy to pick up his heart meds and they decide to taser him?

Like I said before, I hope things go smoothly for your dad and this whole bad situation goes away quickly.

So, if I don't agreee with the poster, I'm just supposed to go sit in the corner?

I did express how both sides had their reasons for what they did. And I did say I wished his family well.

JT- I don't really understand your comment.

Default Everyone take a deep breath....

This is not ifish.....lets keep this in mind. Everyone has an opinion and should be free to speak it, lets keep it calm.
