I know I'll get some flak from you guys but- I believe your Ifish slams are really uncalled for.
You have to understand that the rules for posting and reasons for banning people come from the top. Jennie owns, operates, nurtures, directs and yes- rules the way it functions. It's a private site, supported by sponsors and members donations- she has all the rules clearly stated and posted for all to see. If your "discussions" with others are deemed confrontational or arguementative instead of constructive and civil- you will suffer the consequences- but you knew that. Of course this all becomes VERY subjective and what one moderator or Jennie sees as a problem might go right by another. So it can seem like skating on thin ice at times. It's the price that's paid for keeping the site family and kid friendly. I find it ironic that some say they like it here because it is such a "friendly" site. But that's "EXACTLY" what the rules on Ifish are designed to do- maintain a friendly atmosphere. Then you'll post what's deemed "an attack" of someone on Ifish and run over here and fall all over yourself to be "more friendly". Just something to think about. I enjoy both sites, but realize that some things are better left unsaid in some places. (come to think of it- this post might qualify- but work is slow.....)Jim |

But as far as the slams being uncalled for, I really haven't even posted the worst of what I've seen occur over there, and I imagine others have seen worse things as well. And of course that's also why I've stopped using their site, so it was a pretty easy solution on my part. While other's have different thresholds for when the bs has gone too far and decide to find greener pastures. |

I was talking with one of their sponsors yesterday (a friend) and asked him why his company sponsors that site. I explained what happened to me and my situation, as well as showed him their version of censorship by looking through their closed forums and their moderators' snide remarks and quips.
He said he had been hearing alot of things like that lately, and his company was having concerns over their continued relationship. He also brought up issues he'd heard about death threats to commercial fishermen on that site (though I told him I hadn't seen the posts in question, but had heard the rumors and doubted their validity.) Needless to say, he was not pleased with what he's been seeing and hearing about them from multiple sources (customers.) By the way, T4T, I agree that every site has the right to do what they feel is necessary to keep the site friendly and safe. But they go to far. So being their right to exclude people and topics I don't argue with at all, just as it's also my right to use my billfold and consumer power to limit their success. I am still looking for another guide for a spring chinook trip before I cancel a trip through one of their advertisers. I am not giving you flak, just a difference of opinion. Any luck on those winter brooders, yet? Me, not so much. Last edited by cavdad45 : 03-07-2008 at 02:19 PM. |

Thanks for another point of view Trollin4Trout. I do think that there is a ton of good info on Ifish and really good people as well. But there are more posts about who is right and who is wrong, that it takes away from the site. I have seen your posts on there and am glad you are here as well. There is more good than bad, but there is enough bad to make me feel uncomfortable posting comments for fear of harassment from the regulars who seem to get more leeway than the average member. Again glad you are on OFF and IFish and thanks for your very insightful perspective. Way to go!

like a few of you had already said, there is the "in crowd" - those that all seem to have a holier than thou attitude and if you dont agree, SPLIT! i have been listed as a member since '02, only a few hundred posts and dont look forward to responding or starting new threads. on a few occasions, even as of the last few weeks, i have been called "stupid". im think skinned enough to walk away with a smile - just doesnt make me want to contribute much, ever! i would imagine if the person that called me stupid wasnt part of the in crowd, it may have been "moderated".
i dint walk the party line - like to think for myself and dont need to post every pic of fish caught or tell others how to catch fish... i.e. what pound test to use for winter steelhead or what gear to use to catch em. for the last couple of years that site has been in decline, mainly for the over moderation. how many kids actually use that site? the younger crowd on that site are late teenagers, who in school are allowed to get in more heated debates than are allowed on the mighty 'ifish'. if you were a member on that site years ago, you'll remember all the reports daily - then a few reports were weekly. now the reports are few and far between. my thought on that is FINALLY some people have realized that the site brings too many people to there "spots" - look at the wilson last year and this. never have i seen or heard of so many people on that river, in boats midweek. crazy. i could go on about how that site is run for "kids".. i think im done. im glad this site isnt over-moderated, and dont and havent yet felt like i cant say whats on my mind. more later - possibly? i like this site! |
