Just got the garden all tilled and ready to plant! We grow corn, tomatoes, peppers, beans, onions, broccoli, pumpkins, beets, lettuce, radish, carrots, flowers for cutting, sunflowers, potatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and weeds, oh man can I grow weeds!!
We always try something crazy too, like watermelons, cantaloupe, one year we tried egg plant, that was a real good idea ![]() |

Since I only have a dinky tiller (for flower beds), I decided to try container gardening this year. I will have tomatoes, peas, red potatos, maybe corn planted by the fence.
I have to share this tale. My mom loved plants of every kind. She had an indoor planter box in the dining room. This made it easy to care for because at meal time everyone would pinch, snip and water. One year she had nearly every inch taken up with some plant. What she didn't know was that my younger sister had "potted" some of her own special plants in with Mom's. Mom couldn't figure out why my sister had such a keen new interest in plants. Well, when my sisters plants began towering over my moms, it was nipped in the "bud"! My mom decided they must be "weeds" and yanked them all out and had them in the garbage before my sister got out of bed. Of course, my sister couldn't say a thing when she saw what had happened! She did tell Mom a few years later, after she turned eighteen. We laughed for weeks over that one.![]() ![]() ![]() Barb

I've been wanting to put in a raised bed for a garden...but haven't got aroung to it yet...maybe one of these years. I am growing some tomatoes in my flower beds, they ussually do pretty well. My sister inlaw gave me a tomato plant that I'm lookin forward to seeing if it's true to the tag on it. It's a tomato tree...it's supposed to get 8 feet tall, I guess we'll see if it's true or not later. It sounds funny to me, I can't wait to see what it produces!

We do alot of veggies every year, plus 8 types of berries and a couple fruit trees.
we also raise chickens and ducks for their eggs and meat, and we have 3 goats for blackberry mowers and meat. That tomato tree sounds pretty cool.. |
