Went out there today from 7-11 and limited out again. The lake offers some nice fishing for stockers. Troll roostertails green and you will do ok a FASTER troll seems to do better then a slow troll. make sure your blades are spinning!

The only time I went there was in november, not knowing that it was closed. We drove 45 min, only to find out that it was closed. So we went to faraday, saw 1 huge fish jump, thats it. We didn't catch anything off powerbait. The visibility was great! like 15' maybe. Where's the bank on NFR? Is it by the main marina? What you use? I'm noobish.

Last trip up to north fork this year and boy was it a good one.
First and foremost I think that NFR should be 10mph or less. When everyone on the lake is fishing and trolling all over the place, people trolling every way you can imagine and somebody comes along water skiing. They should just go someplace were everyone is doing the same thing instead of a making a chaotic boat navigators nightmare. The second thing is I do not care HOW FAST YOUR BOAT CAN GO stop trying to show everybody on the lake how fast the boat daddy bought you goes. The lake was good today we got limits again 3rd time started around 6.45 and fished until 1. The ticket for me here is trolling rooster tails but saw some good action with a smaller steelhead spoon do not mess with flashers and such in my opinion just long line it! The color (green / rainbow and size (small-1/8 oz)have seemed to be very important as well as the time. Early day from sunup to noon is when the fish seem to be more active, I imagine its because of there hatchery feeding time, Also if you launch at the promotory park do not mess around with fishing that area. Motor up and go just past the second boat ramp to the west and troll around the dam area and hug the logs and bank the whole time. North fork is deep with 1 really visible nasty stump but its like 5 feet deep 5 feet from the bank almost everywhere if you make the second boat ramp your turning point and just troll around the damn area and hug the banks and the logs you will do ok. I hope that helps at least one person. mike

Thanks for the great report,Mike. Sounds like you had a fairly good day even with the knotheads. Someone should come up with a "boat playground" where people can do all the speeding and goofing off they want and not mess up the water for people fishing. Until then I guess we'll just have to grit our teeth and try not to toss our anchors at them. I am still hoping to get out on the water soon. Soon.

Fished NFR for the first time Saturday evening just before closing time at the little launch area that PGE owns and allows the public to use. Caught 1 keeper rainbow trout and lost another slightly larger one just as I was about to get it out of the water. Lure being used was a gold/green rattle spoon, 1/8 oz.
Was back there again this morning, same place. Same lure. I had one strike and that was it. Switched to worms and had no luck for the longest time. Then all of a sudden we started catching these newts or salamanders like crazy. |
