rainbow works good. I've seen rainbow outfish garlic or corn. and now a dumb question for anyone out there- why don't people catch steelhead with powerbait or do they?
lately the trout I catch prefer garlic or yellow corn or salmon peach or sherbert. powerbait comes in many flavors that trout can't resist. now that the stocking of JCP is finished for awhile i'll be experimenting on the McKenzie with power bait flavors.
I was at the JCP yesterday with my old jar of stale turbo power bait. I caught 1 then they stopped biting. I got bored so I changed my leader from 3' to 7' to keep it way off the bottom and then slayed 4 more in no time.
I used to go there when it was owned by Willamette industries and not very many people went there. it had non-stop bass action from an inflatable or small boat but nothing over 2 lbs still a lot of fun though. then I guess the county bought it and made it a park. last time I was there it was...
yes by oakridge. years ago maybe 20 or 25 brook trout were overpopulating a lot of the small high lakes several lakes had extra limits on brook and some had no limits on brooks. i'm pretty sure the erma bell lakes might still have a extra limit on brooks.
I used to think powerbait was stupid and for kids and old people. but have changed my mind when I witnessed it out catch anything even my old trusty corky and worm.
I limited out at the JCP last Friday with an old jar of turbo it had been opened over 2 years ago. it was a little bit dried out but stayed on the treble better than fresh power bait.
yeah too many carp but i have no doubts about tons of other fish there. i might work it over with plastic worms next year or maybe this year if i can get out of the planted trout mode.
carp has a strange flavor almost kind of nausiating but the worst thing about it is it's full of bones way...
lol, well one thing i know is true...lookout is a giant carp hole now,LOL!, i hope you killed every damn one of them you caught they are about the most worthless trash fish there is. i actually tried eating one years ago and decided never to try it again,YUCK!!!
no offense intended if any carp...
i never caught anything there except the occaisonal 9 or 10" trout on the upstream end by hampton but one of my buddies says he used to catch nice kokanee or coho and bullheads from the dam years ago. i'll call him tommorow to findout. there's a rumour that lookout will be a excellent...
i was at lookout yesterday afternoon to visit some campers at ivan oaks campground.
its too full to fish from the bank unless you aready know a hotspot. i think the best way to find a hotspot would be to troll it. it was better years ago when it was only halffull.
