I'm trying to not get pessimistic too quickly, but I'm not having much luck there either. I've gone down there three times in the last month, and tried just about everything without getting a single bite. I have also not seen anyone else pull a single fish out yet....

I think I saw you guys this morning on my way to drop the kid off at daycare. Two guys fishing in a blue boat the size of a big bathtub, correct? I was on the way to work and seriously jealous :D

If it's the area I'm thinking of, the signs say "no boats with motors" on the south side of the highway/railroad. It's oars or kick fins only....

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just to update... I did go with the Okuma for a couple of reasons: 1- I took the fly fishing class and already shelled out for a really nice 5wt outfit. between that, the course fee, flies, etc there just wasn't enough in the budget for a second expensive reel...

So I have a beautiful custom made 7/8 weight 10' rod that I traded an OFF member for. I had it professionally re-wrapped, and now want to use it to chuck flies for Bass and some Steelhead. I understand the value of a good fly rod, but the expensive reels don't seem as important. I'm looking at...

Where do you guys park to access the AB canal. I'm like five minutes away and have been meaning to give it a shot. In fact, I would appreciate any info that anyone has on the entire Alton Baker area as far as fishing opportunities. It's close to me, looks fishy and I never see many anglers...
