Mercury
You need to be careful with mercury contamination on any resident fish in the mainstem Willamette. Adults should limit intake to 4 meals per month. I eat bass that I catch but definitely limit my intake. I could probably have enough bass to eat several times/wk if I wanted...
I'm fairly new to bass fishing as well - only fished the last two summers/falls. I've had a lot of luck with just wacky rigging a a 6 inch worm (pumpkin seed) - no wieght, just the weight of the worm. I just cast it out and let it sit for 30 sec to a minute. Then give it a tug to pull it off...
I do have a boat. But what do you mean by "frog water". There's no major feeder rivers right in Salem/Keizer. There's a pretty narrow spot downstream from Keizer Rapids park. I wonder if you could find them there. I just have no idea what type of water you'd tend to find them in. Pools...
I know they're starting to go over the Willamette Falls. I've read people fish for them in the Clackamas and Santiam. What about the mainstem Willamette - particularly in Salem/Keizer?
The last couple nights I caught a few in the 2-3 lb range. Got skunked tonight though. I don't understand how one day in the same spot, same lures you can do well and then the next day nothing. Maybe they get spooked or used to the lure? There was another guy fishing there that really got...
I'd love to catch some bigger ones. The ones I caught were along some rip rap in a back eddy in about 10-15' of water. But the hole gets as deep as 30'. Should I try deeper for some bigger ones? I was just using a wacky worm, no weight and found it difficult to get real deep. I've read a...
Caught a few smallies tonight with the two biggest ones being about 1.5 - 2 lbs. What's a decent size for these guys on the Willamette in the Salem/Keizer area? I've just started bass fishing so I have no idea.
thanks
