    What's with the Columbia now!

Where on ifish do you find this? I was baffled to go there and find no apparent section for salmon, sturgeon, or steelhead..

    What's with the Columbia now!

I've been fishing the Portland area for salmon with no luck, and haven't seen many nets out on other boats. Had some luck with sturgeon on Saturday at the mouth of the Willy.

    Reasoning behind the hog lines?

Funny, we ended up starting one on Saturday... we picked a spot, anchored up, and by the time tide was turning other boats were lining up around us. Some old timers next to us were a little unfriendly, but otherwise it is nice to see what is working for other people.

    Small panfish for sturgeon bait?

Maybe they would have worked eventually... I had the herring in the freezer from springer season, so it was just as easy to use them. I just grilled a bit up... first time eating sturgeon. mmmmmmm. 39" on the money. I'd thought for sure it was the upper side of legal, the way it fought...

    Small panfish for sturgeon bait?

Not sure if this is a condemnation of my attempt to use this bait, but I tried a perch alone and with some smelly jelly type stuff for a while, whole the boat next to us pulled in shaker after shaker. Ok, that's an exxageration, but they pulled in several and we pulled in none, with three...

    Small panfish for sturgeon bait?

Got some bait for Saturday in about 30 minutes of fishing off the dock at Cathedral park in St. Johns. Pikeminnow, a bluegill, two sculpin, and several perch. Let's hope the sturgeon like them!

    Creek chub for bait?

Are you talking plunking rigging here? If from a boat, why wouldn't you just rig like you would with a whole herring?

    Small panfish for sturgeon bait?

Awesome! Looks like I'll be stocking the freezer...

    Small panfish for sturgeon bait?

I've been catching the crap out of small perch, bass, and bluegill in the Willy after work... is there any reason I couldn't stick these guys in the freezer and use them for sturgeon bait come Saturday? Most are in the 6-10" range.

    Cathedral Park Fishing

Yeah. The boat ramp dock isn't really hospitable for fishing, whereas the other dock is. Watch out for cables and stuff off the outside, especially right at the elbow in the dock. It's really easy to get snagged up there, which is why I like just hanging the worm straight down and just off the...

Need help with tides on Columbia!

Man it's been rough out there... makes me feel a little better about not having time to get the boat out. You Portland guys should let me know next time you're going out... maybe we can anchor near each other and watch each other not catch fish.

    Cathedral Park Fishing

...another Cathedral park report: I fished for about an hour 'til dark this evening and could barely drink my beer from all the bites, and I'm not exaggerating. I'd put a piece of worm on my hook, set it just above the bottom, and a fish would bite before I could even put my rod in the fence. I...

    Reasoning behind the hog lines?

I've just steered clear of the hog lines, not knowing all of the proper etiquette. In the case of the triple hog line described above, should the lower boats also drop out and give the boat with a bite a clear route out?

    Cathedral Park Fishing

I went there for an hour or so today, at low tide... I've never seen the water so low there. I caught a little sunfish on a worm, and had lots of other hook-cleaning bites. There's a swamped boat on the end of the dock, which has been there for a few days now. I bet there are lots of fish hiding...

    Reasoning behind the hog lines?

Yeah, I've boated around the hog lines and not seen too many fish on the finder, then seen a ton just a few dozen yards away... I've also seen guides steering clear of the hog lines, but some of the guys in the lines have got to know what they're doing, right?
