Fishing/crabbing off the public pier in Newport

I've cought several greenling off the end of the pier. The trick is where to put the bait. Everyone I see out there fishing trys to cast as far from the pier as possible, but every fish I've hooked there has been right UNDER the pier. Bring LOTS of sandshrimp, though, because you will lose...

    Took my little girl fishing

My 4 year-old daughter has been BEGGING to go fishing for months now, so we took advantage of a little sunshine yesterday. We went out to our favorite pond after I got home from work, and she lasted for a couple of hours before she got tired of reeling in fish. We caught bluegill, perch, and...

    Little Bass

Congrats on getting your first bass! Keep trying out there, I've seen some pigs caught there. Btw, did you happen to notice any rabbits while you were out there? I'm still in the mood for BBQd bunny...

    Perch in the bay?

Nice job on the greenling haul! Where about did you catch them? I've been looking forward to eating some perch, but I wouldn't mind a bucket full of greenling. :)

Halibut dates - released from ODFW

I found this site that has a length to weight chart for halibut. Halibut Weight Table - Alaska Halibut Fishing - Length / Weight Chart for Pacific Halibut At store prices of $10-$15 a lb, I'd say you'd most likely get your moneys worth. But, even if you don't, YOU GET TO FISH IN THE OCEAN! :)

    Razor clams in Newport?

Ditto on that. Four of us got our limit in about an hour last summer. I didn't get to eat any though, as I had an appendicitis that night...

    Snow peak gates

Are there roads to Snow peak that haven't been gated by Weyrhauser(a.k.a-the forest Nazis)? With grouse and quail season opening soon, I'd like to make my way up there. I'll hoof it from the gate, if I have to, but the farther in I can drive, the better.

    Any catfish here?

I'll be in the John day area mid October, and I'm hoping to do some fishing while I'm over there. Are there any good spots for catfish in the area that anyone would be willing to share?

    No luck at St. Louis

If you look at the "Oregon Hunting Access map", on the ODFW website, you will notice that the St. Louis ponds ARE a designated bird hunting area. I've never hunted there personally, but if it's like all the other bird hunting areas managed by the state, the "no shooting" signs you guys saw...

    Boat names

I've been fond of the name Serenity for a boat, but I'm a hardcore nerd. (and I'm sure only the TRUE nerds on this forum will know what it's in reference to...)

    Worms!!

Ahhh, a little worm slime won't hurt anybody. I was a punk little kid, and had two older brothers, trust me, I survived PLENTY of worms...

    crawdad lakes

This is what the odfw regs say: "Closed for crayfish (except tribal fishery) in Metolius Arm (tribal water)." Hope that helps.

    Shrimping on the oregon coast?

Great idea using the minnow trap. I'll have to give that a try next time I'm fishing over there. Any suggestions for bait?
