    Oregon Rockfish Classic - report!

Great pics, +1 on the fun. I was there, managed to hook up with an 11 inch, 7 oz. stocked trout. I was on the water right around 6, caught my trout around 7, and then had the rest of the day to futz around trying to upgrade. While the fishing was sub-par, the overall event was awesome. For...

    Coho behavior question

Well, given that I am fishing from a kayak, I am already working against the current. Which isn't so hard in the Nehalem. I'm dialing in my technique, and have yet to give bait a try. Easier to just pack along an assortment of hardware. Next trip out I am going to bring an assortment of...

    Coho behavior question

Howdy all, I was out on Nehalem bay yesterday and last Wednesay trying for coho. No joy from trolling an alvin or an inline spinner (chartreuse and green on Wednesday, blue herring Alvin yesterday). I tried chucking (pink) buzzbombs and crippled herring (Blue and White) right at the fish, as...

    Faraday/North fork trip

There is a ramp right at the beginning of the dam wall where I believe they back the truck up to. best fishing (that I have had) at Faraday is off of the end of the dam by the spillway. poweregg, #10 or #12 hook, #4 sinker, cast out 20 yards, let it sink, and wait.

    Ling cod

You aren't going to find them in Netarts. They live in and around rocky structure. All of the Lings that I have hooked up hit a 3 oz jig w/ 6/0 hook and dark colored swimbait bodies. The bigger ones will latch onto smaller fish that you are reeling in. I have yet to have that happen, but I...

    Ling cod

Yes. Advice from a newbie to another newbie. Find a buddy who is also using a kayak to fish from. Leave a check-in schedule and float plan with someone on dry land. Make sure you have a good PFD, a waterproof VHF radio, and an emergency whistle at the very least. Wear the PFD the whole time...

    Front Drag SPinning reels?

Switch right behind the bail arm is basically "free spool." Flip it one way, and the reel only will spin to take in line, flip it the other way and the spool/bail and lever arm will spin both ways.

    Here Come the Tuna

So the seas were kinda bumpy on the way out, and there wasn't much to see - ocean, clouds, the sky. I didn't have the camera out during any of the action, or for most of the trip - between trying to hang on, fishing, having my hands coated in saltwater and tuna gore, I really didn't think...

    Here Come the Tuna

I am heading out tomorrow aboard the F.V. Siamez through Depoe Bay Tradewinds for albacore. I went out on the same boat for Halibut - the crew is pretty salty, small boat, and they at least acted like they knew what they were doing. I'll post a report by friday.

    Pacific Mackerel in Oregon?

Howdy all, I was wondering if anyone knows whether Pacific Mackerel run nearshore along the Oregon coast? If so, where are good spots to go after them?

Sockeye on the Columbia for the bank bound

Howdy all, Since I am bankbound, I was wondering where they might be good spots along the Columbia to try for sockeye, and what sort of rigs work for them. I know I could try Cascade Locks, because I caught one there last year while shad jigging. Where else? Cheers, Madoc
