Yea that was the spot we were at on Friday and whatever the trout were eating near the surface was way more interesting than our lures. What were you using when you caught the trout/ kokes if you don't mind me asking? I'm not even sure I'd recognize kokanees from trout if I saw them underwater.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. Actually I didn't see any rabbits out there this time but there were tons of hawks about so maybe they knew better. I think next time I'll avoid the bushes for a spell and cover a little more water before I commit to losing gear.

Heard all my life that chartreuse was THE color to catch crappie with. Used to catch a few in Kansas with that color but its been a loooong time. I too will have to try white as well.

yeah does that little pond produce well and do you know of any proven methods for it?

Any recommendations for targeting them with flies or spinning gear? Or is fishing for them while spawning a bad idea

well said everett and mlw. there are a few other threads on this site arguing about if artifical lure/ fly fishing is better than bait fishing, or if fly fishers care more, or bait fishers litter more, or fly fishers have their heads lodged up their nether parts and how far :). Sounds like this...

Went back to the south santiam again today. I didn't have any luck but could see quite a few fish. Took a few pictures for the fun of it.
