That's kinda what I was thinking.... I just hate to drive that far. I have only ever had success right below the dam at Foster, however I have seen some steelhead at Waterloo but I would have to battle swimmers.

Hey guys! So I usually fish the mainstem Santiam at the I-5 rest area between Salem and Albany. At what point should I skip that and hit the forks? And then, which fork should I go to? I just want ONE steelhead/salmon this season.... just one..... :(

My thoughts exactly. I would think one would just use a decent sized dough hook and just drift it. Or maybe even plunk it.

I'm thinking about using the eggs... Hmmm...

Hey guys! So... looking on Cabelas at their stuff that's just for salmon/steelhead and they show a few powerbait products (dough and eggs). Thinking about it, steelhead are just big rainbow trout. Has anyone had any success with powerbait?

Hey guys! So with the bobber stoppers that are just the string wrapped around the little piece of tubing: how do you get those from sliding up the line? I use braid and it still does it.

I can second this. In almost 10 years I've caught 2, and I have more gear than I even know what to do with. They're pretty finicky fish, but MAN when you hook into one the feeling is unreal. The fight is incredible.

Where are some good spots to target bass in and around the salem/keizer area? I know about st. louis ponds, but I'm looking for a place to kill an hour or 2 between end of work and night time. I work in Salem.
