Striper fishing is a staple for me, but not in OR. I hear the Umpqua is about as far north as their range goes. I fish for them in the rivers in CA so I don't know a lot about surf fishing for them. They hit all kinds of bait (live or dead); shad, anchovie, sardine, bullhead, goby, splittail...

I try all kinds of different ways. Fly rod is the most fun tho so thats how I voted. It would be nice to actually catch one some day........

All of my salmon fishing has been from a boat, mostly in the ocean trolling with downriggers. When the fish are not biting, yeah its boring. I mean, lets go rockfishing or something! When they are biting its a blast, I can't get reset fast enough. In other words, Eureka was really boring...

If I remember correctly, he was laughing so hard he dropped his pole. Grandpa just worked the hook back out of my nose. It went from inside the nostril to the outside, but fortunately the barb did not go through so he was able to back the hook out. It wasn't funny then but it is in hindsight.

When we were about 11-12, bank fishing for stripers, my brother hooked me right in the nose on the cast. Anchovie bait and all.

It is easier to find gopher traps than mole traps. But its easier to see moles, the ground moves on top. I shoot em, but I'm in the country.

83" Sturgeon last year on the sacramento river. Too big to get into a picture. I have pics of the head somewhere and a video of it somewhere. The video is pretty cool, lots of boats gathered around for the show while I was fighting it.
