Default Hello, all,..... I'm relatively new to Oregon

Hello Everyone, I'm new to Oregon 2 yrs ago
I'm an oldtimer from Ca, moved here to Winston a couple yrs ago. I'm about finished working on our new place, and ready to get back into the fishing scene more seriously.
I have fished for every kind of fish in the Sac-SanJoaquin Delta, and all the valley lakes, including Lake Tahoe. I know I have a lot to learn about fishing this area, but it looks like I found the right place to get started.
I practice C&R most times, but I do keep a fish now and then to eat for myself only. I like boat fishing for the most part, and I have a 16ft Tracker F&S, w/ a 50 hp 4st. I love to Bass fish, and so far, I have fished Ben Irving and Cooper, and I have visited Winchester Bay a couple times. Just kinda waiting for the Bass to come out of hibernation now. I would love to catch a Steelie and/or springer, but seems they are a bit smart for me.

Its good to be a part of this forum.

Thanks
Rich

Welcome to the forum Fishtracker . Don't feel bad, those elusive steelies have had lifetime Oregon fishermen/women scratching their heads for years. Last year I was at the Santiam in Jefferson with my son for days trying to hook into one of them. We were doing everything according to the books when, all of a sudden a big 'ol steelie (about 48") swam right in front of us! I grabbed the net and made half a dozen stabs at it while my son was rolling in the dirt laughing at me. Just don't give up.
Have you tried Tenmile Lake south of Newport for bass yet? They have bass tournaments there from what I've read.

Default Welcome ...

Welcome to OFF, glad to have you here. Ten Mile lake is a very cool place, lots of structure, hydrilla grass along with boat docks and boat houses; there is also a canal that links two large lakes together - reminded me of a Disneyland ride, just a pretty cool lake. There is a strain of hybrid Bass in there that are a hoot. Good luck on the hunt for the Bass...keep us posted on your progress.

Chuck
