Default New to site

Greetings,
I have been lurking for a few weeks and appreciate the site. There do not appear to be flames or elitist attitudes here. Which is great because I practice catch and eat. Occasionally though I will release some fish. I come from back east and moved to Oregon 25 or so years ago. I just recently got back into flyfishing (no I don't have a Sage) and have been toying with jigs and bobbers for steelhead. I like the small mouth fisheries that the lower Umpqua and the JDR offer. I would like some more info on where and how to catch walleye from the bank? Anybody have any tips I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks for the site.

Welcome!

I'd love to hear anything you have to share about the John Day, especially if you know of any good bank spots nearish the gorge .

I am from Ukraine, moved to the states about a year ago. The "catch and release" concept was for me like WHAT??? It's like put some vodka in your glass and then put it back in the bottle.

Thumbs up Welcome to Off

Nice to have you on the site, don't fret about catch and eat...that is why ODFW put those fish in the water. I catch and release mostly because I ate so much fish in the beginning that I just couldn't eat another Trout; now I harvest a couple dozen fish a year. Enjoy your catch and be well.

Chuck

I generally fish the John Day from Clarno and Cotton wood. At Clarno there is a few miles of walkable access on the river left side and at Cotton wood there is some access up stream from the bridge. Another spot is at Priest Hole outside of Mitchell. I would google earth for the maps to the area. We usually use curly tail grubs on jig heads of various weights. Motor Oil and watermellon colors on the curly tails. The mouth of the John Day is strickly a boat show.

I grew up in Prineville and in the 17 years I lived there I never fished the John Day once. Man what a gorgeous river though. The rock formations are just wonderful.
