gonna need a 30-30 or .308 or something in that range for the elk. Deer you could get by with a little .223/5.56 even.
Where do/would you go for antelope?

I would go with a .308 for both. For elk you need the knock-down and if you don't have much experience tracking you should go with a larger caliber for deer. Some people go with a .30-06 but a 308 is the same caliber and hits a lot harder.

lately i haven't been catching much. been using my same old tricks. i guess im just waiting for the water to warm up so that the fish will start making their beds. THEN THE FUN BEGINS. but don't worry, im all about catch and release. ESSPECIALLY during spawning season. I want to catch fish in the future.....

I was thinking of a 30-06 or a .270.... i think that a .223 is a bit light for deer.... thats like the exact same as a .22...... I think...... prong horn's would be in eastern oregon.

yes the .223 is just a high powered slightly larger .22 but thousands of people have harvested deer with them.

I use a Savage model 99E .308 (lever) for hunting, both deer and elk. My wife uses a .223 savage (bolt).
I've never used a .270 so can't give you any info on those.
my 30-06 is a good gun, but just a little large to carry all day.

Nice choice. The 111 is a bolt action right? I've been impressed with accuracy on savage bolt actions. You'll have to let us know how it shoots. Are you going with open sights or putting a scope on it?
I'm lucky enough to have 500 yards off my deck to sight in on

Yeah its bolt action. It came with a simmons scope on it. but i think that eventually when i get enough money i will buy a better one. i will definentally let you know how it shoots.

I only wish i had 500 yards off my deck....

Shoot, i wish i had a deck....
