Hi Everyone,

I joined a couple of weeks ago. I guess it is about time I post a hello to you all. I really enjoy this forum. It is a great resource and fun too. I have lived in Oregon for 8 years now and caught the fishing bug about 4 years ago. I am originally from Michigan, but have no idea how to catch a bass (not to say that I have not tried to catch the smallies in the Willamette that are less than a mile from home!). We have a 15' smokercraft and a couple of personal pontoons that we attempt to look like we know how to use.

I have yet to catch a salmon, steelhead, or sturgeon... I am afraid it may take an act of god to get my hubby or I to learn to use our boat well enough to catch one!

However, I do quite well on the lakes and will typically get my limit on trout.
My favorites are Trillium, Devils Lake (Lincoln City), Vernonia Pond, and Mercer. This time of year I tend to start close to home and follow the stocking reports. We also have a small RV, so we tend to be where the camping and fishing meet up.

Welcome to OFF Fishgirl, glad to have you. I do not have a boat, but there are quite a few on here that are more than willing to help you learn the tricks of working in Oregon waters.

Welcome, and when you say Mercer do you mean the Mercer lake west of Dallas? Or is there another one?

Oh, sorry, didn't realize there was another one! I am referring to Mercer Lake just north of Florence, OR. There isn't a lot of pressure on all those lakes down that way so they have nice fiesty holdovers. They also have perch in the summer. I love trout fishing, but also love perch eating.

How is fishing at the other Mercer?

Ahh I thought I had heard the name before, but just couldn't figure it out as it sounded like you were in the Portland area, and the best I could think of was Merwin over in Washington.

No one really knows, the road to it is gated for most of the year. I've been tempted to head up there but I've never had the time, and after hearing about the gate I'm not sure I want to invest the time with out knowing how far my walk is going to be.

Default smoker craft fun

I have a 16' foot Alaskan - I would not cross any bars with it , but it is perfect for crabbing in the bays and trolling for salmon and steelhead , sturgeon also . If you want tips on where to go and how to rig e- mail me at cchinook45@yahoo.com .
