time for a "Quick long-winded intro"
After about 12 years, my wife and I have decided that we're going to start fishing again. Neither have really fished since we were kids. Most of her fishing was bank fishing for blue gill, SM and perch. I did bank, boat, dock, you name it, for everything from bass, trout, salmon and halibut. We're without a boat/canoe for now so we're stuck with the shores & dock, and looking for a place closer to town that we can hit up on occasion after work on the weekdays. I first thought Smith/Bybee, but after scoping that out I think its a bit too early to spend an evening loosing all our tackle in the grass/whatnot close to the shores there... So, till we get something to float us on the water, anyone have some suggestions? Like i said, we'd prefer not to travel too far from town - say a half hour or so... |

Thanks for the welcome. Picked up the wife at 4pm and ran out to Haldeman Pond. Only about 7 or 8 others out fishing. Had we kept it all we would have limited by the time we left at 8pm. Managed to kill a lil 9" while removing the hook (man its been a long time). While he's not much for us, i did lay out a few fillets that my garter snakes at home enjoyed

For a closer location East and West Salish ponds are in wood village off I 84 easily a 15 min 20 min drive. In the East pond are sunfish including Large mouth. I the West pond are stocked trout and stocked trophy trout in the 5lbs + ranges. Type Salish ponds Oregon in to Google maps for directions. The Willamette is also a good spot. There are several posts about fishing around PDX. I would search the site for "fishing in Portland" and read a few to get an idea of places to fish. Good luck! Welcome to the sites, I live in the area as well and would love to read your reports about the spots in the Greater PDX.

Thanks for the heads up.
Monday night (day I first posted) I picked up my wife from work and headed to Sauvie and Haldeman. Had a good couple hours there though we couldn't find a way to keep our gear out of the mess in the pond. I hit up Commonwealth on tuesday and got nothing. had a few bites but couldn't hook anything. hopefully more will come this weekend! |
