Default Leaburg Lake

Went up to Leaburg Lake for an afternoon fish, man the wind was tough to deal with. I managed two fish, both Cutthroats and both released unharmed. No pictures of the fish but here are some of the area.

Default Leaburg?

Hi Chuck- that looks like a nice place to fish. How far is it from Eugene/I-5 to the lake? And, how big is the lake?

Default Yea it was windy

I went to Cougar yesterday and it was real windy there too. I almost stoped a Leaburg lake instead but wanted to see Cougar so we went on. Caught 1 from the bank and released him. It was real nice area.

Jim, the lake is about 30 min. from the I-5 exit up the McKenzie, the lake is about 1/2 mile wide at its widest and 2-3 miles long. Native fish hang in the rear of the lake and along the shore line. The main pool gets planted with hatchery fish heavy. The boat ramp at the dam is primitive to say the least. If your interested let me know and the first trip is on me...kinda show you the ropes, my bigest Cutthroat came out of that lake. There also Salmon and Steelhead in there.

Speaking of the boat ramp/launch. I'm hearing there are plans to either add a new one or improve the existing one. EWEB owns the property "Lloyd Knox Waterboard Park" and I think they may have an upcoming project in the works.

From what I understand they are also raising the water level by 12" or so. More H2O for power production I believe. There is another ramp on the Hwy side of the lake near Ikes Pizza Parlor, the problem is the hwy itself. Traffic can be a real bear at times and there isn't much room to manurer a trailer and rig. Tried it once and decided to use the one at the park instead. Once you have used it a few times its really not that bad. Of course I don't have a very big boat either.

I think the plan is to raise the lake 6" and not 12" like originaly intended. As you can imagine, there was a lot of opposition to a 12" raise.
