Default Thomas Lures

I first heard about the Thomas Buoyant Lures from a guy that told me he caught a Steelhead on this new floating lure , well I was amazed by his claim. So did some research and found that the buoyant is not necessarily accurate, it is more in the advertised name. I must admit I do carry a complete color selection in my lure box. Very effective against Trout and Steelhead. The lure does run more shallow than say a Kastmaster of the same weight. But it is my belief that the lure isn't a floating lure. Just my opinion.

It is actually called a "Deadly lure" It is a spinner somewhat similar to a panther or rooster tail. I bought mine at The Fishermans Marine in Oregon City. I saw them a GI JOES too.

There must be two different styles, the lure I am talking about is a spoon, one piece the only moving part on this one is the fish on the treble hook. I would love to see a picture of the spinner model, do you have a digital camrea ? I can see why they call it the "Deadly Lure", if it is any thing like the spoon model.

Default Anatoliy try these lures

Anatoliy

If you want to talk "deadly" lures you need to talk about my favorite trout lure, (both wild and odfw stocker trout) the famous Panther Martin lure. Cheaper alternatives simply do not produce the same sonic bubble that the Panthers do. My fav color pattern has to be the classic black body with yellow dot pattern, and a gold blade. The teardrop pattern is a classic. Try out many diff patterns both natural and holographic. check their website.

Panthers are deadly on big trout and salmon as well. Work the lure slowly, just barley keeping it spinning , causing the deadly Action. This is perhaps what seperates PMs from other spoon or spinners. You can just reel slowly and let the spinner and its vibration do all the work. Also it is ok to tip one of the hooks with a "tiny" amount of worm or berkley bait, as to add scent but NOT so much to change the sonic bubble action.

I fish for ODFW here in portland and have caught 35 trout in an hour on PMs during the right condition and shortly after stocking. Using the count down method. It sounds a bit easy, but its fun. Of course I get strange looks from people bait fishing as I release all my fish, and they only get 2 in an hour. I might keep 2 for frying.

also Anatoliy if you like spinner fishing, (you have to try with ODFW fish) try out the lightwieght flylike blue fox vibrax panfish spinners. They are almost like a fly they are so light. they look like a spinner but they have a unique falling action and can be jigged as well.

Default PM lures

Anatoliy

Great forum, I like it better than oregonlive's forum.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I do NOT fish for ODFW. but meant to say I fish for ODFW fish. (meaning the Oregon Dept Fish & Wildlife stocker rainbow trout)

I am just a regular bank angler, I fish for Smallmouth LgMth BASS crappie and warmwater fish during the spring summer, and sturgeon all year as well. A little on the Clack for stlhead. But I never pass up the opportunity to fish for stocked trout. Although I have to say I have not fished at the great ponds in Salem, but plan on doing so in the upcoming months. ODFW's website has the stocking schedual and it looks like salem gets the best of the trophy sized fish. Lucky!

But yes the 35 fish I caught those couple of times were your standard 9 inch variety, nothing special. I just found a big group of them and caught a fish on every other cast. doubled up a few times. Great fun, ODFW fish fight great for their size. Now after the fish get settled spinner fishing may be less productive. I have heard of people catching big stockers on bass worm, like a senko . If something is not producing then go to something different.

Here are the spinners I used for odfw trout.
http://www.panthermartin.com/Lures/Spinners.aspx

Expensive but worth the price. use good line.

I usually use the black with gold. SIZE 6 works well for me . Smaller may be better. But for lunkers experiment and work up deep and slow.

Here is the great vibrax that I like

http://www.bluefox.com/products/flash_spinners.php
I actually used the heavier of the 2 sizes. Green or rainbow or silver.

But Anatoliy, I have only been able to find the small vibrax at Wal-Mart.

also line weight is crucial strong 4 or 6 would be good.

I ALWAYS tie my spinners w/ a polomer knot directly to the line. This is for the best action, although my friends catch plenty of fish on PM's with a small black snap swivel.

best of luck Anatoliy Great forum

Today was my luckiest day at JCP! I came there at 2.30pm, and until 4pm it was like always - i tried lures, powerbait - nothing. But from 4pm to 6pm was just a great fishing. I caught 4 trout (2 14" and 2 9"), 4 times fish pulled the line but I didn't manage to hook it, and finally one time I hooked something big and didn't manage to land it. This fish was probably old and smart, when she understand she is hooked, she didn't try to run to depth (like the fish I caught did), but instead she run right into a bush between her and me and broke my 2 pound test leader. But that was fun anyway!

P.S. For fly fishers - a guy not far from me was fly fishing. I don't know how many fish he caught today but I saw him landing fish 7 times!!!

P.P.S. Nelson, thanks for the information! About the forum... I think I have to THANK MY MEMBERS for making this forum the way it is.
