Default Fishing for trout at the Junction City Pond.

After my unsuccessful attempts to fish in the Willamette and Long Tom rivers I started thinking that it would be a good idea to try lake or (pond) fishing while the rivers are so muddy. I asked a guy in the fishing department at BI-MART in Junction City if he could recommend a local lake to fish in. And he told me that 300 trout were released in the Junction City Pond last week. So I went home, grabbed my fishing gear and went to the Junction City Pond.

I got to the pond at 3.30 pm. It's warmer today (40 degrees). Water - 45 (according to my thermometer). The water in the pond is way cleaner than in the rivers.

In about 20 minutes I heard sounds of excitement and I saw a guy reeling something big. I stomped toward him preparing my camera. When I reached him the fish was already landed. So no gaming shots. Sorry.

A guy who was fishing not far away from the spot I was fishing in said I was making him feel bad. He said "I caught 4 fish and you don't want to take pictures of it". So here he is with his fish.

I have no doubt now that while I was spending hours and hours without any success trying to catch something in muddy rivers, people were catching fish in lakes and ponds. Lesson learned.

At 4.15 everybody started to leave and in 5-10 minutes I was alone at the pond. I didn't want to leave the pond without a fish. And my persistence was rewarded by a beautiful 14" trout!

Default Nice Fish

Beautiful fish-looks like it was a good day there. I had heard that they only stock large fish at Junction City, and it appears that is the case. Congratulations!

After such a great fishing experience that I had yesterday, of course I just can't not visit Junction City Pond again. The weather today was just great - sunny and warm (above 50). The pond was more crowded than yesterday, and of course the most popular spot today was the pier (that's where the brooder trout was caught yesterday).

After about an our of unsuccessful fishing I already started to build a theory that trout don't like sunny days. But then I saw a couple, heading back to their car after they got done fishing. And they were carrying four nice fish. My theory went to hell. I asked them if I could take a picture and they agreed. And then they asked me if I wanted their fish. Hell yes! He said he likes to catch them but doesn't like to clean them.

Of course I asked them about their fishing technic. They didn't use a bobber, and also they suggested not to cast further then 5-6 feet. I fallowed their suggestions and in about 10 minutes I got a beautiful trout!

The guy next to me got 2 fish while I was fishing.

So it was another great fishing day at Junction City Pond. One more brooder was caught today here and I know that there are more out there because I saw them jumping out of the water. What a view! A big fish jumping about 3 feet above the surface. And tonight I'm going to have a great dinner!
