I was trolling a gold spoon (little Cleo) 1/4 oz. about 150 feet behind the boat at 1.5 mph. This time of year its probably about 3/4 miles, as the lake fills up the distance gets greater..but also as the lake fills there is another ramp in the back of the lake....so one could camp and keep their boat on the shore in front of camp.

I think they would do just fine, the thing about trolling is action: you have to give the lure action in the water. Use a little scent on the lure the first time in the water. Have you ever heard of a Bingo Bug/Frisky Fly lure ? Dynamite for slow trolling..
