Sad Hills Creek

Went up to Hills Creek this morning, man what a disappointment. It is not even summer yet and the algae is already thick as soup in spots. What a shame, it's such a great body of water, plenty of fish and tons of room. If it is like last year the stuff will be there for most of the season, it turned into Blue Green Algae by early summer and they closed the lake for swimming, pets and don't eat the fish.
We turned around and went to Lookout Point res. what a great turn of events. The water was in great shape, the temp. was only 44 degrees, the back ramp was just in the water by a foot. By the time we were 100 feet from the ramp we had both caught and released fish, both land locked Salmon. Very nice fish, one was pushing 14" the other was boarder line 16", the regulation in that res. is any Salmon over 15" must be released unharmed. As long as you release them heck ya, I released them all afternoon, along with two very respectful Trout, Darrell boated the prettiest fish a pure river fish - a very plump and healthy Cut Trout Trout. What a great day, lots of sun and the wind wasn't that bad. No one got hurt and we caught a mess of fish, good day in my book.
Sorry no pictures, my camera was resting on the desk at home....

Well actually "we" were for part of the time. By the end of the day the wind was just to unmanageable, so we still fished and checked out the other anglers to see what they were up to. It is getting to be that time of the year "SPRING" and all the fish have that same old urge (the boys were out hunting for the nest). Find the path to the food and interrupt it, the fish were laying down deep watching above there heads for food, heck it worked today.

Did you see my ears perk up? There has to be some nice fish in there- big water=big fish! And the water doesn't get much bigger than that big lake! Not in this state anyway.

Too bad about Hills- at least you have a lot of other choices being right in the middle of all those good fishing holes!

I have to stay near home tomorrow so I'll be hitting Haag again. Next Saturday Swift Res. opens- finally- wahooooooo! After that I'll have to give Lookout another try myself. I got skunked the last time I was there- that still burns my hide- I gotta remedy that soon!

Thanks for the report Chuck, Jim

I may brave the rain tomorrow or maybe I'll get lucky and the weatherman will be wrong. Do I need flashers?

Thumbs up Salmon

Jim,
That lake is made for your kind of attack, you are the trolling King. The way those teenage Chinook smack that lure, I can just imagine what that 25 incher must have felt like. Tight lines to you along with good weather.

With the water being so clear and there are so many fish I wouldn't think so, but what the hey, give them a try - who knows, you could start something.
