Managed to make it up to Hills Creek on the 3rd, the algae was barely noticeable. We made it to the back ramp about a 1/2 hour before sunrise...actually a bit early...this is when those mega reverse lights come in handy;and again when one stays a bit to late in the day. The water temp. at the ramp was 69 degrees and 52 degrees at the head of the res., first fish in the boat was a Land Locked Chinook, I sure love the way those scrappers leap in the air a 1/2 dozen times before they dive to the bottom. The wind came up early in the day, around ten o'clock am and never let up the rest of the day. The fishing was pretty darn good in the morning but the afternoon proved to be a bit more taxing. We boated quite a few nice Rainbows, mostly stockers but there were a few natives in the mix.
The amazing thing was the holiday traffic...amazing the amount of rigs traveling up the Middle Fork of the Willy....it seemed like a never ending stream of R.V's. Not many boats on the water, maybe 4 at one time...and this is a fairly large res.; we got to see a ton of wildlife and our nations icon the Bald Eagle...the weather was very reasonable for this time of year, and the toxic algae bloom is over - and the fishing is starting to heat up, got to try out my new Bass rod to no avail, she is still fishless....next week the Umpqua for some Smallies, and the maiden voyage of my pontoon. Really looking forward to the trip, here are a few pictures of the day..Tight lines .. Chuck
