Ok, so I'm new to fishing Hagg....ok, I'll admit, I've never even been there before. But I've read some posts about fishing the dam, I've seen a map of the lake, and now I'm using google maps with the satellite feature, and I can't find anywhere where a "dam" is. Any tips on the location of the dam so I'm not circling the lake looking like an idiot?

Just going for trout, maybe some bass....best place in Hagg is to fish from the dam? Thanks for all the help!

Just drive out to Hagg and when heading to get to the western side of the lake, you will drive across the top of the dam. It is not the best place to fish at Hagg, but is a go to spot for alot of people in boats(water gets chopped alot down on that end). I fish from my pontoon on the north(no-wake zone) side of the lake. I get bothered by the cops alot because i make a scene when people don't obey the water laws out there in the no wake zone, people get upset and go find, and complain to them that I don't know anything about boating or something. But do try to get floating out there as there are some really nice areas to fish and hook into trout, and bass. Scoggins, where it enters the Lake is really productive for me in the way of bass, but I kill trout 100-300 yards off the fishing pier on the west side, just a worm or dough sunk down there. I very rarely use a bobber to fish, but that is my personal preference, so worms under a bobber would probably be a good starting place for trout, if you feel comfortable bobber fishing.(tiny slip bobbers work the best when you want to get deeper than 5 or 6') I have some new spinners that i need to try out in the butter zone there, and I have a feeling trout here are going to love these things!

What Amoeba said is true, but if you are just looking for a bit of fishing fun, not to eat or catch big fish, but tons and tons and tons of small 4-7 inch fish, just use a rig with 3 hooks forking off your mainline, then a small 1/2 ounce weight. Bait the hooks with small chunks of worms. Those tiny trout(i think) arent very scared of thick line. I caught loads on 12 lb test. If the water is high, fish where the first part of the pier sticks out, so there is the main walkway, then a little balcony type thing sticking out. Fish there if the water is high. Just let the worms to the bottom, then reel a little until your line is tight.
If the water is lower, fish the second little balcony. Where the wood is where all the tiny trout are. If you want bluegill, cast a little bit off shore, not full cast, but a half cast. For the trout, just drop your line. C&R all the tiny fish, and use real small hooks, or the hook will go right up through the fish's nose. A rhino fish is what if that happens.
Once you enter, if you turn left, you will drive right over the dam, if you drive right, stop at the first place you can, then walk down the rocks to the dam.

Default predawn bite!

...my lovely wife and I fished the west shore between the fishing pier and the boat docks on Hagg Lake this a.m. from about 45 minutes before sunrise to 8 a.m., the bass were hittin' hard! I fished a carolina rigg with a 5" watermelon/lemon Yamamoto bait: way too big for their little mouths; I wish I would have brought the smaller trout worms.

My wife Nicol fished a small watermelon Rooster tail; it was deadly. Before I even got my bait in the water, she pulled in a nice three pounder! Not bad for a first bass. Before sun-up, she caught another smaller one, then the fish lost interest. I fished with nightcrawlers, then a Rapala minnow, nothing in either case; so I guess I got skunked, I did bring home gary yamamoto worm with teeth-marks though.

I would love for my wife to consistently out fish me. That would just make her want to fish more, and as a result I would get to spend that much more time fishing as well .

Hey, first of all, welcome to OFF! We are one of the finest and friendliest forums in the state. I want to personally welcome you,OrdinaryWife. Your hubby and I have a little history. I am sure he either has or will tell you all about it. I'm certainly tickled to hear from him and pleased as punch that you are joining him here. That is much more important than me ribbing him about you outfishing him. I am fairly certain I am the oldest female fisherfolk here, but I do not want to be the only one. Thankfully, we have half a dozen others also. Thank you for joining and also for taking care of one of my favorite (Mr.) Gimps. He must have one heck of a sense of humor to choose that moniker. That's also why I like him and like to rib him. Anyhooski, welcome aboard!
