Big Grin First time at GP...help!

My son and I are going to take the boat down to GP Saturday. First of all, I hope some of you might be there too. We would love to meet any and all of you. This will be our first trip there with the boat...so we would deeply appreciate any tips, advice or warnings. If you do make it down, look for a cool 1966 Glasspar in a deep blue. Just bought it last fall and only took it out twice. I wonder if I should put a gas treatment in the tank?
Thanks for any info you have. Good luck wherever you drop your line.

I heard a couple reports that the santiam fork (SE arm) has been hot for trout. I havent been there in a month though so I cant confirm anything. Maybe someone else has... if not, here is a start

Post GP Res.

I haven't been there this year, if I was to go tomorrow I would troll around the Island and if you have a sonar I would look for the thermocline and troll just above it with the sun to your back or side. Wedding rings with a hunk of night crawler will bring the Trout up and maybe even a Koke, although it might be a bit early for them. Slow and broken up when you troll, when the wind starts to kick up try one of the many arms and anchor up, try bobber fishing until the wind dies down. One more thing, it this is your first time on GP in a boat find some sort of land mark as you leave the arm you launched at....at the end of the day they all look alike. Trust me on this - they all look alike !!!!! Tight lines and have a safe day on the water.

Chuck

Thumbs up

WOW! You guys are awesome to reply so quickly and with great advice. Thanks for the heads-up on the return trip to the ramp,I hadn't thought of it at all. Maybe a bit of red yarn would help? Anyway, thanks again.

Oh hey, a good landmark to spot the Whitcomb creek arm is the bridge. Then you know that Thistle creek is the next arm up.

I'll be there Saturday also- if the snow doesn't block the way- then may have to settle for Foster!

I'll be way up in the Santiam Arm- so you won't see me on the main lake. Two weeks ago the trout fishing up there was outstanding.

16ft. Smokercraft with black top/canopy. Say Hi- Jim.

Wink

You are on, Jim. We will try not to catch all the big ones . Just one problem, I have no idea where any of the arms are, much less the Santiam Arm. You know, I could have sworn I saw a really nice map of the layout of Green Peter on this site yesterday. Today, no matter where I look, nada. I realize I'm not as sharp as I was 20 years ago, but I don't think I've completely lost my mind. Can anyone tell me where it went? It was fairly detailed and lots of info. See you there in the big blue Glasspy!

Default Catch more fish at green peter.

If you want to catch more fish at greenpeter get white shoepeg corn, two cans of tuna in oil, drain the water in the corn. Then squezzzzzz all the juice into the corn from the tuna let sit over night. Be sure not to get this oil on you line or it will eat it. Cover the whole hook. Going sat. if the weather holds up. I fish this lake all year, if you have any questions let me know. If your going this weekend i will be in a red chevy crew cab towing a aluminum 19ft. spectrum running downriggers. Good luck to all.
