Buying a camera is dependent on two things
1. What you want out of it..
2. How much you want to spend..

There are some advanced point and shoot cameras out that have really good optical zooms and some manual controls for when you want to do some controlled exposures..

Well, it is definatly a great camera, and no doubt it is not cheap... It costs as 10 my cameras
