Howdy everyone, I am from Alaska which is in the dead of winter right now and am visiting my girlfriend in monmouth oregon. I have been jonesin for some fishin all winter and am tryin to use my time here to enjoy one of my favorite past times. So i brought my 8wt and 6wt flyrods in search of trout or maybe even those greatly revered steelhead? I am a beginning fly fisher and have spent the last two fall seasons chasing trout useing beads and drift fishing methods during the end of salmon season. I have no real expereince fishing for steelhead at all. So i have been browsing every bit of info i can find on oregon trout and steelhead fishing. I checked DF&G registries and stocking records on many surrounding rivers and streams.

So with my limited information i spent fri, sat, and sun exploring, and observing other anglers on the rivers i wanted to try and fish, which consisted of the alsea on friday, then we headed north to the nehalem on saturday, stayed at the miami river b&b, (which was a great little place), i was able to fish the miami sun morning but no luck still. On our way back i stopped and scouted a few spots along the nestucca and 3 rivers, fishing the most fly pole freindly areas that i found, I tryied an assortment of nymphs, jigs, drifters, that i read about and that local tackle shops recommended, i even threw on a few spinners and a small flat fish to tempt something to bite no dice

Regardless i had a great time

So maybe some of the local experts can give a few tips to an eager learner I know that catching takes time but i am frustrated because i am not sure what type of lure to use, technique, or just where to fish.

I am goin to explore a some of the area around the willamette this week and might try and make up to the deschutes this weekend before I head back home.

any tips would be awsome, someone who wants to hold my hand and walk me through oregon fishing 101 so i can take a picture back to alaska would make my trip

if any one is plannin on fishing alaska for kings, or cohos i can take up to 4out on the river with my boat, just throwin it out there

Wow what a nice thing to throw out there.....I don't do much angling up north, a Valley guy I am. Their are a few members in your area, who knows maybe some one can hook you up. Tight lines to you and welcome to OFF.

thanks troutski i really enjoy fishing and love teaching other people how to fish alaskan waters i just like to catch fish
