Default A Few Steelhead Flys

I rely like tying my own flies but I often don't have all the right materials to make a lot of the flies so I end up making a bunch that are my own design. I just recently started fly fishing for steelhead and decided to tie up some flies. Some are established patterns, some are inspired by an established pattern, and some I just made up. I would like to know what you guys think. Witch ones would you fish with? Witch ones would you not fish with? Pleas be honest but also tell me why you think what you do. All the flies are on size 1 or 2 hook with some kind of weight added.
Thanks,
Nate

Hey Nate ,
I think they all look great and I would fish with them all..I guess depending on water conditions and weather would dictate witch one and when..

Keep up the good tying, those will catch fish..

Thanks for the encouragement Andrew.
Well I went out to Eagle Creek this morning (down by the mouth) and tested out some of my flies. I used 1, 2, 8, 13, 16 but didn't catch anything. I had a few hits from what I assume where trout that made my heart jump. The water was fairly high but visibility was good. There were only a couple other people there and as far as I know no one got anything. Although there was a cop there checking tags that told me he saw a guy get one there yesterday.
Well, I still have room in my fly box so I'll have to make some more.

Yeah there's no better way to get the heart pounding than a tug on the line, and no better experience than catching a fish with a fly tied by oneself. I'd be curious to see which of those flies catches the first fish.

Post Tying Flies

I tried my hand at tying my own flies for a while, until my son commented on my proportions, he said dad would you eat a hamburger that looked like a piece of road kill. Now he makes the flies and I make the spinners, a great trade if you ask me. Yours are just like his, very editable

Well witch ever one dose ketch the first fish it will be my first steelhead on a fly. I'm rely going to try to only use flies that I have tied. Fly fishing is already so rewording and getting a fish on a fly that you designed and tied your self is rely the icing on the cake.

One thing I could use some help on though is knowing what fly to use for the given conditions I'm fishing in. I know that things like water clarity, temperature, river level, time of year, light, proximity to the ocean and other factors all play a part in determining what fly to use I'm just not sure how to go about making an informed decision that accounts for these factors. I know three are isn't an exact formula to determine the "right" fly to use but there should at least be some guidelines that address differing conditions in regards to fly selection. Right? Any help with this sort of thing would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Nate

aahahaha real nice...

Those flies look pretty good 1, 9, 11, and 14 especially. 3 and 4 are really great ideas for an egg also. Nice work.
