Default bass on the fly

I am just starting out fly fishing and I love to target bass. Is a 6wt rod enough back bone to cast most bass flys? Also where is a good place around the portland area to start my bass-fly experience?Any tips on good patterns are much appreciated.

8 or 9 weight. Zonker leeches are the fly angler's equivalent to the plastic worm. Fast sinking fly line is needed to get the lure down.

There are lots of great books available like Beyond Trout.

First OFFdo you have a way to be on the water ? I found trolling a egg sucking leach to be very productive on Bass. I use a 10' 8 weight with 6 weight line on it, Floating line on one spool and full sink on the other. I am no pro with the fly rod but I do have a knack for fly poppers. Along a weed line or near structure.. Now from shore, I am great at leaving my tackle in the trees; I do most of my fly angling from some sort of floating device.
