Time to break this in! - Lake of the Woods - Page 2

Fishing has been pretty slow at this lake, so I wasn't planning on going back until later in the summer. My brother wanted to go wakeboarding and this is about the only decent lake around. I hate emmigrant for fishing and Lost Creek is still under a toxic algae warning AFAIK. So we headed off to Lake of the Woods again. The kokes were all holding at about 35-40 feet, but we didn't get any takers. We trolled down the west shore for nothing. After dragging my brother around for a bit, we started trolling down the center of the lake in 45 feet of water. Marked lots of fish, as usual, but no hits until a big wild rainbow went after my koke gear (sling blade + orange kokanee killer + corn). My luck has been pretty good lately, for the last 3 weeks, I've caught fish at or over 16" which is pretty damn big to me. While I was busy dragging this fish in, my sister in law didn't reel in her line. So I picked up her pole and started realing it in because I thought she was snagged on the bottom. It felt like I was pulling up weeds, but just in case, I handed the pole back to her. Low and behold she had caught a chunky little brown bullhead with a hoochie and corn. Damn those things stink! We kept it and threw it in my parent's pond when we got home. We ended the day trolling the shore with rapalas with 1 ldr and 1 pretty little 'bow. I was a little surprised the fish were still so close to the shore. The water was about 68 degrees, which I thought would be too warm for them.

Thanks for the report, too bad the area down there doesn't have more places to adventure to. How close is Klammath to you.....they have a great population of Rainbows...Rocky Point is the area I usually fish. Good luck and tight lines.

Well, I'm in Rogue River, so medford is about 20 miles, lake of the woods is about 36 miles from medford, so I'm guessing klamath lake would be about 70-80 mile trip. I definitely want to try that lake, but probably not until the fall.

Oh, there's plenty of places to fish around here, but a lot are restricted to 10mph or are cold and windy

I want to head back to applegate this week for sure, I've had great success there. lesse..

Unrestricted (or 30mph):
lost creek reservoir
emmigrant reservoir
Howard Prairie
Lake of the Woods
Willow Lake (clockwise only?)
Galesville Reservoir (clockwise?)
Rogue River behind savage rapids dam, but they're taking out the dam

I KNOW this place is loaded with rainbows and I hooked a steelhead once accidentally.. lol most exciting 5 seconds of my life until it tossed the hook. Oh and 16+ cutts

10mph:
Applegate Reservoir
Fish Lake
Fourmile Lake (I think)
Hyatt
Selmac (mostly bass, but there's stocked trout)

All these lakes are within an hour and a half from my home, so I'm not complaining

There's some other small ones, but I can't take my boat (20" bayliner) out on them

Sweet, nice place to live.......I my self have a 15 foot boat so I can all most launch any where.........
