Default Northern pike minnows and more.(Pics)

My freind came over this morning about 7:45 and we went down to the creek to fish i desided to try out my new spinning set up and leave the fly rod at home. We got down there and about the 5th cast i hooked a desent Pike minnow.

Me holding him i look really stupid.[Note im 6,7 so all the fish im holding look smaller then they are]
I swiched spinners over and hooked this Cut throut trout? looks kinda rainbowish. Hes about 9 inchs

I swiched spinners agien and hooked a huge Pikeminnow.

He looks small in that pic but he was heavy and fought hard. I dont know were the but on his gills from but he released just fine.

Next we walked down the creek were i hooked the biggest cut throut ive seen but he took a fantastic leap and threw my hook i was pissed. But caught this PikeMinnow 2 mins later

I caught 2 more cuts boath about 9 inchs but dident take pics of them.

NIce cutts and squawfish. Looks like you nailed em in that creek. There are probably some big bass in there too. The cutthroat trout like that slow brackish water whereas the rainbows prefer the colder water.

Thats a huge pool in the stream behind me the biggest ive found so far some of it it fast flowing or semi fast flowing.

What do you do with the squawfish? I usually break their necks and take them home to bury in the garden. The reason being that they are a huge strain on trout and salmon populations. They like to gorge themselves on trout/salmon eggs and newly hatched fry.

I leave um there native there so are the trout i have just as much fun catching a squaw as a trout sometimes more because the big ones fight way hard the big one in the pics there dived jumped and fought like the 10 pound cabazon i caught a few years back Pike Minnows are pure mussel. I dont waste native wildlife.Plus the trout pops down there seem fine.

Good for you! If they are native than they have an important place in the ecosystem of the area.
About that, are those northern pike minnow or Squaw?? Or is that the same thing? The responsible thing to do is know your waters and their species if you fish them. They belong to everybody. Know what is native and what is introduced illegaly and becoming wild. Those we should erraticate with a vengeance.

Northern Pike Minnow is the proper name squaw fish is what some people call them but squaw is a durogitory term for native american so i try to refrain from calling them that. And they are native. The columbia has a problum with them since it was damned and made most of the river perfect habitat for them so now there pops are unuseally high.

This moring i took my dad fishing down there with me he caught a 7 mabey 8 inch cut throut and i caught a 12 mabey 13 inch fatty cut throut i was proud of him since he doesnt fish much sorry no pics i was haveing to much fun fishing with my dad.

Some people call them squawfish because that was actually their 'sanctioned' name up until recently when it was renamed the northern pikeminnow. It just takes time for everyone to get accustom to the new names.

Just like it drives me nuts that my in-laws insist on calling sculpins, bullheads! No that would be a member of the catfish family .

Beautiful fish! Where's this creek located?

I've heard that the Northern Pikeminnow has a bounty on it... anywhere from $1-$4 depending on the size. Any truth to this?
