Hi, Chuck
I'm in Salem. Have been to several good kokanee lakes in the past but have not been out this year. Was hoping to stay relatively close but still far enough to get away! My wife and I prefer jigging but also troll.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Glen

Glen,
There is a great lake thats not to far from you called "Greenpeter" and right below it is Foster, they both have a generous supply of Koke's. I think Greenpeter is a nicer lake mainly because it is so big your not hemmed in by the other anglers. That lake is tough to fish in the wind but when you finely find those pesky Kokes you can fill a cooler in a short time. The locals swear by Wedding rings w/worms tipped with white corn(shoepeg) if you make it there pay attention to the arm you launch from because after you make it to the main body of the lake all the arms look alike. It is very embarrassing when you can't find your way back to the ramp with out directions from another angler...don't as me how I know that...
For directions I use Mapquest, very easy mapping site, wish they had directions back to the ramp...

Chuck

Been to both those places. And yes Greenpeter is a good kokanee lake. We did consider GP. However we like to have lake view/front camp sites. Call me picky but I like to sit by the fire with a cold beverage in hand and gaze out at the water.

How about Suttle lake up on the pass towards Sisters, great cabins and Kokes along with Giant Browns.....they even have a resort with cold beverages..

There are a couple of lakes on Hwy 58, Odell and Cresent both very good Koke lakes, the only problem with them is the camping, the Amtrack rails run right behind the camp ground and it really does take the outdoors experience right out of a peaceful night around the camp fire. The only other two I can recommend are Wickiup res. on the Cascade lake Hwy and Paulina lake east of Hwy 97 near LaPine, a long drive but both are world class Koke lakes. And have on shore camping.....

I agree, Paulina is a great destination for kokes and browns. But at $3.00 per gallon it is a bit far! I have read fishing reports from greenpeter and paulina and
it sounds like gp's kokes are running bigger than paulina's. At least they were a month ago. We are kind of torn between suttle and gp. Has anybody fished either recently?

The decision is in. Started with Greenpeter and Suttle ended up at Cresent.
Will report back when we get back.

Default Crescent Lake kokanee report

Just returned from Crescent. 3 days of fishing. Jigging and trolling, and not even 1 strike! Did not see or here of ANY fish being caught. Went to Lava Lake to catch some trout. The lake has turned and is pea green. Again not even a strike. I did see one small trout caught.
