Default I Fish For Shad For 4 Years Now Its Great

Shad Fishing is So great, Ultimate action., dont ahve to wait all day for a bite... i go every year few times to bonneville damb. Cant wait till it runns really good, actually im planing to go fishing for it this Saturday... My record is 81 shad in a day... i know some people caught more but thats great for me.... i always just fish from those rocks on the shore, i guess its the most popular shad fishing area i think....

Yeah i was just down at Clackemette park yesterday but it was way too windy to fish. There were a few other people down there but i didn't look like anyone was catching anything. Baller what do you use when you fish from the bank?

I posted this question in a new thread, but just in case...I'm coming from Rhode Island to fish shad on the Columbia...do I need to bring my waders? Or is it just a shore fishery?

Richblott, for the most part the columbia is a bank and boat fishery. There are a few spots out of the current that you probably could wade a little, but to be honest I've never seen anyone wading in the columbia.

with the water as high as it has been all the fish are near shore anyhow, so casting distance shouldnt be a problem.

I'm planning to go out to the bonneville dam on June 21 or June 22 for shad. Second time out there for shad. I kept getting snags and I lost 2 jig heads and a shad dart the first. Should I use a jig head that has a head that is a sphere or a jig head that is kind of like a cone, just tilted? I'm going to joes and I'm goin to by some 3 way swivs and some florescent colored jigs heads and some dropper weights. Are jigs better or the spinner things like the pic in the other posts better? How do I not get snagged? 1 last question, when does shad season end?

Use whatever you can find for cheaper, but get more than one color (green and red atleast).

snagging up is just part of fishing at bonneville, look around places like craigslist for cheap lead. I know shad will hit corkies, maybe try a more bouyant rig if you want to try and avoid it.

I like the spinners because I can in a matter of seconds combine colors or make a new one. change blade colors, ect. and they are about as cheap as it gets. They have alot of action by themselves and I can use the micro grubs on them too.

It doesnt say the when the shad season closes : Regulation Changes: Columbia Zone - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife

just keep checking that site to stay on top of what ODFW is doing.

K, nevermind, I'm going on wednesday (June 18) and I'm planning to go to Cascade island(I think that is where all the fish are) and arrive there at 7:00 am. I think that is when they open. If any of you want to catch them shad too, pm me and we'll work something out. I've only fished shad once and caught nothing, so it would be nice to have a fellow helper that I kind of know. My dad says he won't take me there again if I don't catch anything... Sarcastically I think. I could use a helper. I stalked up yesterday(june 16) on some new shadding equipment. I got new jig heads, some Glo Bug Yarn(someone mentioned they got lots of shad on it) droppers and 3 way swivels, I need some fish cause the family loves any kind of fish. =D

p.s. I'm 11 years old.....
