Default Kalama Wa. Sturgeon

Yesterday my Dad and I took our boat up to Kalama Washington in search of sturgeon. We put into the Columbia and began searching sloughs of the main channel. After a couple hours we found a hole. The slough that we were on had an average depth of 15 ft and a hole that was 66 ft at it's deepest point. We anchored at the leading edge and threw our lines out with antisipation. As there was no one else there we were'nt sure if there was any sturgeon there or not. But after a short wait my pole began to twitch. I tried to set the hook several times with no result. Then I got a strike. I picked up my pole and set the hook. I had one on! But it got loose after a short period. Then several boats began to come and anchor around us. It was then we knew we had found a hole that was frequented by many. A short time later my pole began to twitch again. I decided to leave it in the pole holder until I got a good strike. Suddenly my pole bent abruptly. I picked it up and set the hook. Then as if the fish was shot out of a cannon it ran liked greased lightning. It took more than 100 yds of line from my reel as if I had it released. It was a huge fish and it was controling me, not me controling it, I had to just let it run and go where it wanted. It was the biggest rush I've ever felt while fishing. The awesome power of this fish was overwhelming. It made several runs and got away, without me ever seeing it. I now can see why people go after the over sized fish. As with most I'd rather catch one I could keep, but feeling how powerful the oversized ones are was truly amazing. I can't wait to go back to that hole and give it a try again.
