Hello all,
My name is Richard Santos, I recently purchased a 26' offshore boat and have gotten her set up for some good times on the water. I hope to share any information and experiences as they come around! I just started trying for sturgeon in the Umpqua (my boat, "Tia Maria", is moored in Winchester Bay), with no success YET. I am looking forward to salmon, halibut and tuna when their times come. I'd also love to go after some bottom fish, but haven't a clue where to target them out of Winchester. Can anyone give me some ideas? Thanks! Richard |

I can't help with the Ocean fish, but I can help with the Sturgeon and Salmon (both species), along with the Small Mouth Bass, Shad and Striped Bass. I have on different occasions caught all of these on the Umpqua between the mouth and where the Elk viewing area is up stream from Winchester Bay. If I can be of any help just let me know. Tight lines and safe trips to you.
Chuck

Hi Chuck!
Thanks very much for your offer of help! Yes to all! I've heard of fishing for sturgeon between the 12 and 26 markers, and I used live sand shrimp. I've only gone once, just below the 26 in about 28 feet of water (too deep, I think). I'm also very interested in stripers, what is the season and technique/tackle for those? I have three young daughters, and am looking forward to trying for some pinkfin with them. They would probably enjoy smallmouth as well... So many fish, and so little time! I'm sure we'll be 'talking' a lot! Thanks again Chuck! Richard |

Thank you Anatoliy. I've seen some posts from the captains and I'm hoping will be hearing from them. I'm actually moored on the same dock as the Strike Zone(s). Hope to meet up with them as well sometime. Also, I'm sure this forum will grow and help a lot of us 'newbies' out, as well as share what's happening out there to make everyones trips more enjoyeable.
Thanks, Richard |
